GREENSBORO, NC- Former President Donald Trump appeared to back a proposal which victims of illegal alien crime have sought for years in a Tuesday interview.
Speaking with Just the News, Trump backed the idea in response to a question from interviewer John Solomon. Trump spoke with Solomon before appearing at a Greensboro, North Carolina rally, seeking to boost his standing in a Republican-leaning swing state.
"I am," Trump said about his openness to a border crimes reparations fund. Trump referenced previous attempts made to enact such a proposal- most of them frozen by Democrats.
“It was talked about, and then I guess people shut it down." North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx had introduced legislation that would've seen illegal immigration crime victims compensated last year, in the form of the Justice for Victims of Open Borders Act. The idea was first discussed in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001- a crime itself carried out by nine illegal immigrants.
Nearly 40,000 illegal aliens have been charged with crimes such as homicide, kidnapping and sexual assault, according to the Heritage Foundation.
“I've met so many of the families. They've been just decimated by these people that are allowed to come into our country. The murderers and drug dealers and the worst people are allowed to come into our country. And they're poisoning our country... What Biden and Kamala have done to this country is unthinkable," Trump said of the Biden-Harris administration's open doors policy on the southern border.
More illegal aliens have infiltrated the nation's borders under Biden than any other president in American history- with the federal government severely capping deportations at the same time, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.
Critics of illegal immigration also point to the phenomenon's skyrocketing effects on American housing prices, while lowering middle-class wages at the same time. It's unclear if Trump's backing for a reparations fund would see Americans harmed by adverse economic impacts compensated- or if illegal aliens responsible for the negative effects on American communities would see their incomes confiscated in order to alleviate those harmed by their crimes.
Trump pledged in the interview to change the Biden administration's approach to the borders quickly, should be be inaugurated for a second and non-consecutive term in January.
“I’d close the borders. I would absolutely, without question. We have to get those borders closed."
