CHULA VISTA, CA - ABC News reported that in what appears to be a case of “turnabout is fair play,” a number of illegals attempting to cross the southern border near Chula Vista, California, were robbed by a group of “armed bandits,” according to Customs and Border Protection Chief Jason Owens.
Owens posted images obtained from surveillance cameras located near Chula Vista that showed images of illegals trying to cross the border Sunday, however, they were intercepted by armed robbers.
“USBP surveillance technology near Chula Vista, CA captured these images of armed bandits robbing several groups as they attempted to enter the country illegally,” Owens said in a post. “Yet another example of the dangers these criminals & smugglers pose to the public, the migrants, and our agents.”
According to CBP data, encounters with illegal aliens were down in January from numbers encountered in November and December of 2023.
According to Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel, the San Diego sector made over 7,500 apprehensions of illegal aliens crossing the border from 75 different countries.
On Thursday, Joe Biden will finally make a trip to the border, visiting Brownsville, Texas, the first time he has been near the border in the three years of his administration.
Concerning the armed robberies, Fox News reports it is unclear if they took place on U.S. or Mexican soil. It is also unknown what, if anything, was taken or if any of the illegals were injured. Fox said they contacted CBP for additional information but didn’t receive a response.
Owens has made routine posts about Border Patrol apprehensions at the border.
Last week, for example, the told reporters agents have caught nearly 180 illegal aliens with gang affiliations so far this year. The gangs included Paisas and MS-13, which are involved with murder, extortion, narcotics trafficking, weapons/human trafficking, and prostitution, Owens wrote on X.
Owens added that in FY-2024, Border Patrol apprehended over 6,400 illegals with criminal convictions. That number doesn’t include gotaways, which likely puts that number much higher.
As previously reported by Law Enforcement Today, over 21,000 Chinese nationals have been apprehended in the San Diego sector, a majority of them military-aged males, in FY-2024, raising national security concerns. During the entirety of last year, 24,000 Chinese nationals were apprehended at the border, with only 288 of them being deported.
Over 7.3 million illegal aliens have crossed the southern border into the United States since Biden was installed into office in January 2021. Some estimates have that number much higher. According to a Fox News analysis, that number eclipses the populations of 36 individual states.
