JEFFERSON COUNTY, MI - Two suspects who were being detained in a jail on murder charges escaped and were later found in an abandoned home.
According to ABC News, the two suspects escaped from the Claiborne County Detention Center around 2:20 a.m. on Friday, July 5th. Both were found around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6th, in an abandoned home. Police were searching for the two murder suspects for nearly 33 hours.
The suspects, 24-year-old Tyrekennel Collins and 18-year-old Dezarrious Johnson were considered armed and dangerous. Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey said in a statement, "When you have someone in jail and they are charged with murder, you get them apprehended as quick as possible because we don't want them to go out and hurt any more individuals."
The sheriff's office posted to Facebook the apprehension of Johnson. Live video of the arrests can also be found on social media. In a statement on social media on Friday, July 5th, the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department said, "Early this morning, two inmates escaped from the Claiborne County Detention Center."
Sheriff Edward Goods said both suspects were caught on camera escaping through the ceiling and leaving behind the outside wall. According to the New York Post, both men are awaiting trial on murder charges in separate counties. Collins is charged with the October 2023 murder of his cousin in Copiah County. Johnson is charged with murder and aggravated assault in Jefferson County stemming from and October 2022 incident. Goods said Collins and Johnson are now each facing a charge of escape.
In Wayne County, Mississippi, residents have been alerted that an inmate has escaped from the county jail. According to WDAM, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) posted to their Facebook page on Monday, July 8th, that 42-year-old Martin Ralls III escaped from the Wayne County Jail.
Ralls was last seen leaving the jail and running into the woods nearby. WCSO said that there is a video of Ralls jumping the fence at the jail and going towards the woods. He was wearing an orange county jail jumpsuit when he escaped. Ralls is a white man who is 5'7" tall and weighs close to 175 pounds. If anyone has any information, they are encouraged to call 911 or Wayne County Central Dispatch at 601-735-2323.
In Desoto County, Mississippi, an inmate identified as Joshua Zimmerman escaped from the courthouse in June and authorities have just increased the reward leading to his whereabouts. The increased amount is a combination between the U.S. Marshals and the DeSoto County District Attorney's Office, with both offering $10,000 each.
DA Matthew Barton said in a statement, "This is a very, very dangerous guy. One of the worst types there is." Zimmerman, who is 30-years-old, has been on the run since June 14th. Authorities said that he is armed and dangerous. Barton said, "he shot somebody in Texas. He shot somebody in Mississippi. He's done a slew of other crimes in other states."
