ATLANTA, GA— In the developing story of Suffolk County Police Officer Matias Ferreira’s removal from Emergency Exit Row seating on a May 17th Delta Air Lines flight, the Marine Corps veteran uncovered a surprising inconsistency with the airline staff’s decision on his flight.
In a video posted to Facebook and Instagram, Ferriera revealed that the informational pamphlet from Delta Air Lines explicitly depicts an amputee serving in the exit row role and assisting in an evacuation.
As previously reported by Law Enforcement Today, Ferreira was asked to leave his exit row seating on an Atlanta-bound Delta Air Lines flight on May 17th due to his being a double amputee, despite his status as an active-duty police officer and high level of capability.
In his post on Facebook, Ferreira shared a video of the Delta Air Lines-branded, illustrated pamphlet on his return flight, writing,
“Return Flight- Something ironic about my post. I’ve had a lot of incredible feedback and I can’t thank you guys enough wanting to educate and have a conversation/discussion on what occurred to me a few days ago on my Delta flight to visit family. The info card in the backseat of my trip back home.
Someone said that the brother of the CEO of Delta is an amputee. God bless his brother and perfect time to have a conversation on how to educate and gain knowledge of what a “disabled” person is capable of doing. Thank you to everyone who has shared and spread this message. Still haven’t heard anything from a representative from @delta but I am hopeful.”
Law Enforcement Today has been unable to verify that Delta CEO Ed Bastian’s brother, Daniel Bastian, is an amputee. However, in a Saporta Report article dated October 19th 2023, Daniel praised his brother for his integrity at the Four Pillar Award ceremony and said, “When I was 15, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer [and given six months to live],” saying his brother, then 26 would drive him to the hospital and back.
His story closely aligns with that of Daniel Bastian, co-owner, vice-president and certified prosthetist of Progressive Orthotics and Prosthetics in Albertson, NY who was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma in his right leg in 1980, underwent amputation in 1989 and wears a prosthetic leg, potentially explaining the anecdote. Dan Bastian detailed his story in a 2015 video posted to Youtube.
Law Enforcement Today has reached out to Delta Air Lines for comment, however, the airline failed to respond before publication. We HIGHLY encourage you to read the original article here and REPOST this everywhere.
