If the last four years have taught us anything, it’s that an enormous rift has been created between far too many Americans and law enforcement. The liberal political and even celebrity community has collectively turned its back and preached negatively about the entire law enforcement community.
Since the unfortunate George Floyd incident, they have repeatedly blamed all law enforcement officers for the imperfections of America.
Celebrities like Natalie Portman have made numerous public statements in support of the "Defund the Police" movement. She was part of the high-profile community that feels America has “an over policing problem.”
She joined the anti-police movement alongside other notable figures, including John Legend, Lizzo, Jane Fonda, The Weeknd, and many others.
And when a celebrity speaks, many of their fans blindly follow along, regardless of how baseless and ignorant their statements may be. With celebrities of this caliber, you are looking at millions of fans who take their pill without question.
And that is how a great divide between millions of Americans and the law enforcement community is created.
It is a sad state of affairs, given the critical importance of maintaining law and order in a peaceful and functioning society.
But that started over four years ago. Since then, many of these same celebrities, even politicians, have come to realize that the police are needed and America cannot function correctly without them. Some have publicly changed their minds, while others have fallen silent and faded away. And a select stubborn few still refuse to admit America needs police despite the mounting statistics that prove otherwise.
Since President Trump took office, public support for law enforcement has grown, but it is far from ideal.
There needs to be more communication and collaboration between law enforcement and their respective communities. Only then can the bridge between the two be mended, and young minds can return to respecting law enforcement and the work they do.
And the nonprofit organization InVest USA offers a program that can do exactly that – Vest-A-Cop. InVest USA is a longstanding nonprofit organization that provides tactical vests to law enforcement and first responders at no cost. Their program Vest-A-Cop is an extension of that idea.
“‘Vest-a-Cop’ is our national program centered around adopting a first responder in your area to ensure their safety. Schools, businesses, and organizations can choose their local safety officer or another first responder to raise funds in a crowdfunding campaign to equip that person with their very own active shooter vest,” their website states.
It continues, “The nonprofit’s general donations fund goes to funding vest requests from across the country, but with our Vest-a-Cop program, you can raise funds specifically for your local community.”
By partnering with your local law enforcement, you can create a valuable opportunity for police officers and civilians to interact. This will help strengthen the bond between them and ultimately lead to better, safer streets; it’s an “everybody wins” scenario.
We know that law enforcement officers would love public support and no longer be labeled as a corrupt organization. Instead, they would rather be labeled as hard-working, dedicated public servants who are committed to helping people because that’s exactly what they do.
