Washington Fundraiser Dinner Raises Tens of Thousands for Gunned Down Officer

WHATCOM COUNTY, WA - An officer with the Lummi Nation Police Department (LNPD), who was shot seven times, is on the road to recovery.

A week after the shooting, the department updated the community on the officer's status, according to KIRO7. "He is currently recovering well and making great progress. The officer and their family are incredibly grateful for the support received and continue to receive from the community."

A fundraising dinner at Syros Greek & Italian Restaurant raised over $20,000 for the officer and his family on Monday, with over 600 meals served, My Bellingham Now reported. The Lummi Nation has also set up a community donation fund to further support the officer and his family.

Court documents say that the man accused of shooting has been identified as Jesus Penuelas-Agramon, who is also a convicted felon wanted out of Colorado. He also goes by several other names. About 20 minutes after the crash, another officer pulled over a GMC Sierra pickup driving in the area.

Inside were three people: Kevin Wittig, Valentina Arnold, and a man who identified himself as Kevin Javier Ogdea. Court documents state that Ogdea was later identified as Penuelas-Agramon, who'd given the officer a fake name. Detectives eventually identified Ogdea as Javier Pena-Flores after recognizing him from another investigation.

Documents state that Pena-Flores is one of Penuelas-Agramon's fake names that he uses that is listed in his criminal history. The documents say that he was living under that name to go undetected in Whatcom County. Penuelas-Agramon was found at his girlfriend's house and arrested.

Court documents state that he is a convicted felon, with a conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm and drug trafficking out of Colorado. He was also wanted for a parole violation by the Colorado Department of Corrections. He has been charged with attempted murder in connection to the shooting.
