We Handed Biden’s FBI Evidence That China Was Gaming The Riots In 2020. They Sat On It. This Week's Declassified Documents Prove We Were Right.

This week, newly declassified intelligence documents released by the Trump administration confirmed what many Americans suspected, and what our organization documented in real time: the Chinese Communist Party had a plan to weaponize America's racial unrest in 2020 to damage President Trump and the police officers who hold this country together.

According to the declassified assessments, Beijing sought to encourage “violent demonstrations” inside the United States, to incite “demonstrations and marches” around racial tensions, to increase the level of conflict between police and anti-police activists, and to push the narrative that American law enforcement officers “resent” people of color. A CIA note released alongside the documents described a standing CCP policy of leveraging “all domestic and foreign elements” opposed to the President in order to damage his standing and block his re-election.

Read that again. The intelligence community assessed that China's playbook was to inflame riots, drive a wedge between cops and communities, and paint the men and women behind the badge as the enemy.

We didn't need a classified assessment to tell us that. We watched it happen on our own analytics dashboard. And in January 2021, we handed the evidence to the FBI.

The Largest Police News Outlet In America... Meets A News App With Chinese Roots

Law Enforcement Today is the largest police-owned news outlet in the world. In May 2020, we entered a formal content partnership with NewsBreak, one of the fastest-growing news apps in America, an aggregator that literally pushes handpicked news articles into the hands of tens of millions of users.

The partnership was a rocket ship. Over the course of the relationship, our content generated more than 137 million total impressions, over 15 million page views, and more than 21,000 followers on the platform. On a typical day, we were seeing hundreds of thousands of impressions.

Then October 2020 arrived. The Hunter Biden laptop story broke. And Law Enforcement Today began reporting on the Biden family's China connections and Chinese influence in the election.

That's when the algorithm turned on us.

The Receipts: Biden-China Stories Buried, Riot Stories Amplified

Our internal NewsBreak publishing dashboard, screenshots of which we later provided to federal authorities, tells the story in black and white.

On October 19, 2020, our story “Sen. Johnson on FBI investigating Biden” received a grand total of 24 impressions on NewsBreak. Twenty-four. That same day, “DNI Ratcliffe destroys Schiff: 'Hunter Biden...'” received 25 impressions.

Now look at what the very same platform did, for the very same publisher, in the very same week, when the subject was unrest in the streets.

On October 20, 2020, our story about Seattle police officers leaving the force in masses was pushed to over 16,000 impressions.

On October 23, a story on protests erupting “immediately” after an officer-involved incident: over 57,000 impressions and 4,018 page views.

On October 21, footage released by Arizona DPS involving a 17-year-old: over 142,000 impressions and 12,000-plus page views.

And on October 24, a story about a man brutally assaulted amid street violence: over 219,000 impressions, 19,000-plus page views, and 433 shares.

Let that sink in. Stories about Biden and China: two dozen impressions. Stories about riots, unrest, and cops under siege: hundreds of thousands.

That is not an accident of the news cycle. That is editorial curation by algorithm, and it matched, beat for beat, what the intelligence community now says Beijing wanted amplified in America in the fall of 2020: chaos in the streets, and conflict between police and the public.

We Called Them Out. Then They Cut Us Off.

In early December 2020, we confronted NewsBreak about the throttling. Their response? Silence. And then the hammer dropped: our traffic collapsed from hundreds of thousands of impressions per day to a fraction of that, nearly flatlining within days. Our analytics from that period show the cliff, a near-vertical drop beginning almost immediately after we asked questions.

Our Google Analytics data tells the same story across the life of the partnership: referral traffic from newsbreakapp.com flowing steadily from the formal launch in late May 2020, then choked off entirely by mid-December.

They were happy to push our content for months. The moment we started negative coverage about China, we were done.

So we did a deep dive on who we had been in business with. NewsBreak, it turns out, launched as the U.S. subsidiary of Yidian Zixun, a Chinese news aggregation app, and was founded by Jeff Zheng, a veteran of the Chinese tech world who founded both companies. Its early backers included Beijing-based IDG Capital, a firm the Pentagon would later add to its list of companies allegedly working with the Chinese military. Years later, a 2024 Reuters investigation would confirm the app's Chinese origins, report that its algorithm engineering was managed out of China with offices in Beijing and Shanghai, and document dozens of erroneous AI-generated stories pushed to American communities. That reporting prompted bipartisan members of Congress, including Rep. Elise Stefanik and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, to demand scrutiny of the app's ties to CCP-linked entities.

In other words: everything Washington “discovered” about NewsBreak in 2024, Law Enforcement Today had already uncovered, and reported to the federal government, years earlier.

We Took It To The FBI. Nothing Happened.

In January 2021, right after the election, Law Enforcement Today compiled the evidence: the analytics, the screenshots, the traffic data, the corporate paper trail. We shared it with the FBI. We laid out our belief that our outlet had been used, unbeknownst to us, as part of a massive disinformation and influence operation heading into the election. Our pro-police audience was farmed for months, our riot coverage was weaponized and amplified, and our China reporting was strangled the moment it threatened Beijing.

We told them the organization responsible was continuing to expand its influence over what tens of millions of Americans read every day.

And for the entire four years of the Biden administration, nothing came of it. No follow-up. No investigation we were ever made aware of. No action. In private correspondence at the time, I wrote that we shared it with the FBI “knowing nothing would come of it.” We were right about that, too.

Meanwhile, the official story hardened. A March 2021 intelligence assessment assured the public that China had “considered” but ultimately not deployed influence efforts in the 2020 election. Case closed, we were told. Anyone who said otherwise was pushing a conspiracy theory.

Except now we know, from the government's own newly declassified documents, that senior election-threat analysts inside the intelligence community disagreed at the time, believed China's activities were being understated, and pushed for an “alternative analysis.” We know the FBI recalled at least one intelligence report on Chinese interference. And we know the CCP's documented plan for 2020 reads like a mission statement for exactly what our dashboard recorded: bury the Biden-China story, pour gasoline on the riots, and turn Americans against their police.

The Questions That Demand Answers

To be clear: NewsBreak has denied being a tool of Beijing, and no federal agency has publicly established that the app curated content at the CCP's direction. But that's precisely the point. No one in the federal government ever bothered to find out, even when a major American news publisher walked in the door with the data in hand.

So here are the questions every American should be asking:

Why did Biden’s FBI sit on evidence from the largest police news outlet in the country that a Chinese-rooted app was suppressing Biden-China coverage and amplifying riot content, during the exact window the intelligence community now admits China planned to do exactly that?

Who inside the bureau reviewed our January 2021 submission, and what happened to it?

How many other American publishers were farmed, throttled, and buried the same way, without ever pulling their analytics to check?

And how many Americans formed their view of police, protests, and the 2020 election based on a feed curated by a company with roots in a hostile foreign power?

More than five years ago, we ended our report to the federal government with a simple line: if that doesn't send a chill down your spine, nothing will.

It still should. Because the documents are finally public, the plan is finally confirmed, and the people whose job it was to protect this country from it looked the other way.
