LOVELAND, CO - A 30-year-old Colorado man was arrested by Loveland police Saturday on allegations he murdered his mother after she was found dead in her home. The man had been released on a $250 after choking a Northern Colorado police officer just weeks before.
As reported by CBS News, the woman was found dead during a welfare check requested by the suspect's sister, after her mother didn't answer phone calls. When officers arrived they were greeted by Michael Fuller, who refused to open the door for them. The officers were able to see his mother's body from the back door, however, and forced entry into the home and arrested him.
The scene was described as too graphic for publication by CBS, but the outlet did note there was evidence of a struggle and forced entry into the mother's bedroom with blood throughout the house. Officers reportedly found a black dress suit and white shirt that were also covered in blood.
Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran told reporters that the scene is still under investigation a full three days after the murder.
Fuller was arrested on October 9 after he reportedly attacked a woman in a nearby park. The woman was walking her dog according to police when they received a call to 911. Chief Doran told reporters that the suspect identified as Michael Fuller, was reportedly assaulting a woman.
"This victim was screaming for her life," Chief Doran said. "An individual in the park was chasing her. She had to retreat into the Big Thompson River."
The woman used pepper spray to drive Fuller off. A group of officers responded to the scene of the incident and found Fuller standing in the river. They attempted to gain his compliance and de-escalate the situation but had to resort to physical force. "He twisted a bit, and got his arm around the neck of one of our officers and actually pushed him down into the water," Chief Doran said.
Following his arrest, in which at least one officer was injured, Fuller was taken for a bond hearing. Larimer County District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin had proposed to release the suspect on a recognizance bond with a co-signer, instead, Judge Jill Sage approved a $250 cash bond which Fuller posted and was released.
The chief later told reporters that he disagreed with the bond, "There was some disappointment on my part for the low amount, given this was a felony arrest. It involved an F-4 assault on a police officer. Under those conditions, I think a $250 bond is not appropriate."
