WASHINGTON, D.C. – According to a report from NBC News, the White House has set up a “war room,” filling it with dozens of lawyers, other legislative aides and communication experts who will be directed to “act aggressively” against alleged Republican investigations into Hunter Biden’s illegal business dealings and threats of impeachment of Joe Biden.
People familiar with the plans say that they did not happen overnight and have, in fact, been going on for months.
NBC News reported that the president’s “aides and allies” are preparing to “vigorously” push back against and impeachment inquiry and also attempt to present it as an “evidence-free” partisan façade that proves Republicans like to start chaos.
The White House aide said, “Comparing this to past impeachment isn’t apples to apples or even apples to oranges; it’s apples to elephants. Never in modern history has an impeachment been based on no evidence whatsoever.”
All of this comes at a time when many polls show that the American voters want an alternative choice for the White House in the coming election.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), said that the impeachment inquiry into Biden is a “natural step forward” and that it could possibly happen towards the end of September without a full House vote.
A source familiar with the situation said that White House aides spent all of the August recess researching GOP statements and fine-tuning a message as well as a response team.
Republicans plan to focus their inquiry on Hunter Biden’s alleged criminal activity with his foreign business dealings as well as claims that Joe Biden engaged in bribery, corruption or otherwise abused his power to help his son, all while sitting as a vice president.
They also plan to argue that the two federal investigations into Donald Trump are completely politically-motivated. McCarthy insists that there is a “culture of corruption” that has been happening “within the entire Biden family.”
“If you look at all the information we’ve been able to father so far," McCarthy said, "it is a natural step forward that you would have to go on an impeachment inquiry. That provides Congress the apex of legal power to get all the information they need.”
On Fox News Monday morning, Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana, laid out the case for impeachment, saying, “Article two, Section four says that treason, bribery, high crimes and misdemeanors.
And on Capitol Hill, a lot of people debate and quibble about what high crimes and misdemeanors are. But we know what bribery is. It’s someone paying you to do their bidding. And that’s what happened here, apparently.”
The White House continues to deny that the president has had any involvement in Hunter Biden’s illegal business dealings.
Biden aides have reportedly looked back to 1998 when the House impeached then President Bill Clinton, planning to use that as a “model” for how to “mount an effective defense." One person familiar with the strategy added that they plan to “make the GOP pay a political price for overreaching.”
According to people who know the proposed plans, if Republicans follow through with threats of an impeachment inquiry in the coming weeks or months, the White House is going to attempt to present a “split-screen," in which the president is focused on economic issues that affect people’s lives.
A White House official said that the goal is to cast the GOP as “out of touch." The official also said that an impeachment inquiry and a government shutdown could coincide and that the White House and its Democrat allies will aim to “project those developments as instability and chaos caused by the House majority.”
