Ten-year-old boy takes father's stolen gun, brags about it, then shoots and kills another 10-year-old boy

SACRAMENTO, CA - Police have arrested a 10-year-old and his 53-year-old father after the young boy allegedly shot and killed another 10-year-old boy using the father's stolen gun. The father was identified as Arkete Davis, and the child has not been identified due to his age.

According to ABC News, police responded to a call of a shooting at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 30th. Upon arriving on scene, police said that they found an unresponsive juvenile who was bleeding from his head and neck. Sheriff's deputies performed CPR until the Sacramento Metro Fire Department arrived and transported the juvenile to a nearby hospital.

The child, identified as a male, was later pronounced deceased.

The young boy was allegedly shot by another 10-year-old who had gone to his father's (Davis') vehicle to retrieve cigarettes. The boy found the stolen gun in Davis' vehicle and took the gun from the car, bragging "that his father had a gun."

According to a Facebook post by the sheriff's department, "He then proceeded to shoot the victim once and ran into a nearby apartment. Detectives located a firearm in a nearby trashcan, where Davis is believed to have tried to discard of it."

Witnesses at the scene told deputies that the individual(s) responsible for the shooting ran into a nearby apartment. Responding officers called for those inside the building to come out and detained them without incident. The sheriff's office said, "Detained from the apartment were an adult and two juveniles."

Based on the evidence gathered, along with the interviews of witnesses, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were able to figure out that Davis was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. The recovered firearm was also reported stolen back in 2017.

The 10-year-old believed to have shot the 10-year-old victim was arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility. According to the sheriff's office, "He was charged with PC 198 - Murder.

Davis was arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail. He was charged with several felony fire-arm related charges as well as PC 273(a) - Child Endangerment and PC 32 - Accessory After the Fact." Davis is being held on a $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 3rd.

According to KCRA, loved ones of the 10-year-old boy that was killed are demanding justice. Although authorities have not released the boy's identity, his family has come forward, identifying him as Keith Frierson, commonly known by the ones he loves as KJ. KJ's aunt, Erika said, "He was smart, very intelligent. Kind, loving, respectful. He didn't deserve this. He still had a whole life to live."

She said that KJ had just come outside his apartment to ride his bike before being killed by the other young boy. She said, "He wasn't even outside 15 minutes and the little boy shot my nephew." She said, "Any parent in their right mind should know how to keep an armed weapon secure. My nephew's blood is on y'all hands. Y'all allowed y'all son to do this to my 10-year-old nephew."

KJ's family has set up an online fundraiser to help pay for funeral expenses. Erika said, "We need justice and a lot of support. My nephew was only 10-years-old, and he did not deserve this at all."

Although the police didn't include these details in their post, the fundraiser website alleged that Davis also changed the clothes of his son to attempt to hide evidence from police, and he also called another of his children to "come through the hole of the gate to assist." This would explain why two juveniles were arrested at the scene.

Keith's mother, Brittani, lost her husband one year ago. She works as an RN in a retirement home and hospice.
