ALEXANDRIA, LA - A child was allegedly shot by his friend, in what police believe was an intentional shooting. The victim, only identified as Tre'Michael, is nine-years-old, and was reportedly spending time with his friend, a 10-year-old, on December 6, 2025, when the incident occurred.
In a news release from the Alexandria Police Department (APD), authorities said Tre'Michael was taken to the hospital, and his mother, Lakisha Leguies, told KALB that her son later alleged from his hospital bed that the shooting was intentional.
"When the tube first came out of his mouth and he was able to talk, the first word was me, 'Mama, mama, he shot me on purpose,'" she said. Leguies also confirmed that her son is nine-years-old, despite the police stating in their release that he is eight-years-old.
APD said initially that they believed the shooting was accidental, but after further investigation, authorities said they determined that it was intentional. The 10-year-old was arrested on suspicion of aggravated second-degree battery and juvenile in possession of a handgun. Due to being a juvenile, his identity has not been made public, PEOPLE reported.
It is not yet clear how he obtained the weapon used in the shooting, or if anyone else has been, or will be, charged in connection with the shooting.
A GoFundMe has been launched to raise funds for Tre'Michael amid his recovery. Describing the child's recovery as "an unimaginable journey," the loved one wrote of the nine-year-old, "The injuries he sustained are severe. He has lost his right kidney, half of his left lung, and his intestines were shattered by the bullet."
"Our family is still in shock, and every day brings new challenges as he fights to recover from this traumatic event," they wrote. Tre-Michael was discharged from the hospital just a few days after Christmas, according to the Mirror.
