COLUMBUS, OH - A man has been arrested in connection with the double murder of an Ohio dentist and his wife, who were found shot to death in their home one day before New Year's Eve.
As reported in a recent article from ABC News, Michael McKee was arrested in connection with the December 30 shootings of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, Spencer Tepe, 37.
Investigators linked McKee to a vehicle seen on neighborhood surveillance footage in Columbus around the time of the killings, according to a criminal complaint filed in Franklin County Municipal Court.
Detectives were able to identify a suspect after reviewing surveillance video from the neighborhood, which showed the vehicle arriving shortly before the murders and leaving soon afterward. That vehicle was later located in Rockford, where investigators found evidence placing McKee in possession of it both before and after the fatal shootings.
Police said the bodies of Monique and Spencer were discovered inside their Columbus home on December 30 after Spencer failed to show up for work, prompting a welfare check.
Responding officers found both victims and pronounced them dead at the scene at approximately 10:11 a.m., according to authorities.
Spencer Tepe had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while Monique Tepe was found with at least one gunshot wound to the chest, according to a report from local ABC affiliate WSYX. Two young children were also found inside the home but were not injured, court records show.
Columbus police say the investigation remains ongoing and that additional details will be released when appropriate.
The Tepe family also issued a statement following McKee’s arrest, saying they trust the justice system to hold the suspect accountable.
“Today’s arrest represents an important step toward justice for Monique and Spencer,” the family said, while thanking investigators and law enforcement agencies involved in the case. The statement added that the family remains focused on protecting and caring for the two children the couple left behind.
Court records show that McKee and Monique Tepe were married in 2015 and divorced in 2017. They did not have any children together, according to divorce records obtained by local media.
McKee is scheduled to appear in court on Monday as the case proceeds through the Franklin County judicial system.
