FORT WORTH, TX – Federal prosecutors have charged two men out of Texas with providing material support to terrorists, alongside other serious felony charges, with the suspects allegedly being tied to Antifa.
Officials claim the suspects were involved in the attempted murder of a corrections officer working at an Alvarado detention center serving as a facility to house illegal aliens awaiting deportation.
An indictment filed on October 15th with the U.S. District Court Northern District of Texas named two suspected Antifa militants as having engaged in a terroristic attack against the Prairieland Detention Center back on July 4th, 2025.
Per the indictment, an Antifa cell consisting “of at least eleven operatives” launched an attack on the detention center situated in Alvarado, initially “shooting fireworks towards the facility and vandalizing vehicles and a guard shed,” which said activity predictably drew the attention of corrections staff working at the facility.
“Alarmed at the presence of people near the facility late at night, DHS correctional officers inside the facility went outside to investigate,” the indictment reads, noting that corrections staff contacted local authorities for assistance.
An Alverado Police officer reportedly responded to the scene and started issuing commands “to a black-clad figure running towards another black-clad figure holding a rifle,” with the indictment alleging one of the individuals in the group yelled, “get to the rifles.”
Said individual accused of yelling about the rifles, identified only as “Coconspirator-1” in the indictment, reportedly opened fire on the Alvarado Police officer within seconds, striking the officer in the neck. A corrections officer nearby reportedly “ducked and ran for cover,” as the unidentified individual continued shooting toward their general direction.
The downed Alvarado Police officer “was able to return a few shots,” until the unidentified subject’s rifle jammed and fled the scene.
Following the shootout with authorities, police were able to round up most of the Antifa cell at the scene, including one named in the indictment as Zachary Evetts.
On July 5th, police arrested another named in the indictment, Cameron Arnold, who was allegedly involved in the prior evening’s shootout with law enforcement.
The indictment goes into great detail with the arguments supporting the charges Evetts and Arnold are facing, noting how the Antifa cell they were a part of “discussed logistics, previous site reconnaissance, and locations of security cameras at the facility.”
A total of “over 50 firearms” were in the possession of the Antifa cell referenced in the indictment during the night of the attack, with the outfit allegedly communicating through an encrypted messaging app to plan “the attack against Prairieland,” adding that the “goal of the attack was…intended to influence the policy of the U.S. government and affect government conduct by intimidation and coercion.”
According to the FBI’s definition of domestic terrorism, the allegations and motivations listed in the indictment seemingly fit the definition of terrorism, which the two suspects have been charged with providing material support to terrorists alongside multiple counts of discharging a firearm during, in relation to, and in furtherance of a crime of violence and attempted murder of officers and employees of the United States.
Attorney and author Jonathan Turley, who has written about and discussed Antifa at length in the past, said of the landmark charges aimed at the alleged Antifa militants, “even if the terrorism-related charge fails, the remaining counts will be difficult to defeat as a whole, and the government only needs one or two counts to secure a lengthy prison sentence.”
Considering the numerous charges both men are facing, if convicted on all counts, Evetts and Arnold could face in excess of 100 years in federal prison if the sentences for each count were served consecutively.
