Defund the police? Atlanta sees at least eight shootings in two days that left eight people injured

ATLANTA, GA - According to reports, the Metro Atlanta Police Department (MAPD) was extremely busy from Saturday, November 18th through Sunday, November 19th, after multiple shootings took place across the city. 

Detectives are now investigating at least eight shootings that left eight people injured. The first incident, which took place in the early morning hours on November 18th, involved officers receiving reports of a person who checked into Grady Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound. 

Upon arriving to the hospital, officers found a 29-year-old man who had been shot in the back. The victim told police that he took himself to the hospital after being shot. The man was treated for his injuries and has since been released.

Initial investigations state that the man was at a party on Pryor Street SW when a car drove up and opened fire, hitting him. The vehicle drove away before any officers arrived at the scene. 

In the evening, around 7:19 p.m., on Saturday, November 18th, police said they received reports of a person who had been shot on Chamberlain Street SE. Upon arriving on scene, officers found a 29-year-old man who had been shot twice. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

With this incident, investigators said that the man was walking down the sidewalk when he was shot by someone he knew. The suspect was gone before officers arrived on scene.

Within two hours, police received reports of a person shot on Hollywood Road NW. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 17-year-old who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to detectives, the teenage boy had been standing in front of a convenience store when he was shot. The suspect was nowhere to be found by the time officers arrived.

About an hour after that, police received reports that a person was shot on Peachtree Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man who had been shot twice. He was taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. Authorities said that this shooting began as a verbal argument between two men over a bicycle. That verbal argument escalated into shots fired.

During the shootout, two bullets struck the victim, who police say was not involved in the actual argument. One of the men was immediately taken into custody; his name has not yet been released. An hour after that incident, officers received reports that someone was shot on Atlantic Drive NW.

Officers found a 19-year-old who had been shot. The man was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim would not cooperate when being questioned by police about the shooting and suspect. 

At 4:04 a.m., on Sunday, November 19th, police were told that a person was shot on Sunridge Avenue SE. Upon arrival, officers found a 23-year-old man who had been shot twice. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

According to detectives, the man was walking down the street when someone in a moving car shot him. The suspect drove away before police arrived on scene.

A few hours later, at 7:48 a.m., DeKalb County police received reports of a person who had been shot. When police arrived on scene, they found a 42-yearold man who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

At 7:04 p.m., police received reports of someone who was shot on Westview Drive SW. When officers arrived, they found a 19-year-old who had been shot multiple times. He was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries. As of this writing, his status is unknown. The victim was unable to tell police how he had been shot.

All of the shootings remain under investigation as police gather more information on the alleged suspects. None of the victims' names have yet to be released.
