MIAMI, FL – The body of a 32-year-old woman who is a mother of two and an anesthesiologist was reportedly found naked inside of a freezer at a Dollar Tree location in Miami earlier in December. Despite the unusual circumstances surrounding the deceased woman’s undressed state and location, authorities currently have no reason to suspect foul play.
On the morning of December 14th, an employee of a Dollar Tree located at 968 SW 8th Street in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood called 911 to report the discovery of a deceased, naked woman inside the storage freezer. The freezer is apparently located within an employee-only designated area of the store.
The woman, later identified as Helen Massiell Garay-Sanchez, was reportedly not an employee of the Dollar Tree location. Miami Police officials issued a statement claiming they don’t suspect any “foul play” but confirmed the matter is “still an active and ongoing investigation.”
“We received a call from an employee, who reported that there was a deceased woman inside of the business, inside of the freezer,” a Miami Police Department spokesperson said, adding, “No foul play is suspected, but it's still an active and ongoing investigation.”
Investigators say it doesn’t appear as though Garay was forced inside of the freezer where she was discovered but are still perplexed as to how exactly the woman ended up inside of it. Apparently, employees of the location did observe Garay entering the store on the evening of December 13th without making a purchase, with the woman allegedly being seen making her way toward the rear storage room where the freezer is located.
Members of the deceased’s family were at the scene of the store location while police were actively investigating on December 14th but reportedly declined to speak to members of the media present at the time.
According to a GoFundMe established to help with “repatriation, transportation, and funeral services in Nicaragua,” Garay was described as a “devoted physician and beloved mother,” citing her passing as being “a tragic accident while abroad.” The woman’s children reportedly still reside in Nicaragua.
Stefany Pereira, the individual who started the GoFundMe, has not issued any public statement when reached out to by media outlets on the matter.
