California Spirit Halloween Shooting Leaves One Dead, Six Wounded; Suspect Still At Large

FAIRFIELD, CA - A shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Northern California on Friday night left one person dead and six others injured, and police are still working to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting, ABC7 reported.

Fairfield police confirmed a manhunt is underway following the shooting inside the Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center mall on Friday, October 30, NBC News reported. According to Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall, the shooting happened at approximately 8:30 p.m., and witnesses described hearing five or six shots.

One victim died, and six others were wounded by gunfire, officials said. Three of the surviving victims were last listed in critical condition.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this heartbreaking incident,” Marshall told reporters at a press conference, but he did not release additional details about the victims or a possible motive.

Officials said they are “diligently working to identify the suspect or suspects responsible for this horrific shooting,” but no updates on the manhunt had been released as of Saturday morning.

The Fairfield shooting came just hours after another fatal shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Madison Heights, Michigan, earlier that same day, Fox 2 Detroit reported.

Madison Heights police say that shooting happened just after 2:00 p.m. outside the entrance of the Spirit Halloween on John R Road, where a 21-year-old man allegedly pulled out a gun and fatally shot a 21-year-old man. The suspect was reportedly injured by the victim’s family after the shooting and remains hospitalized under police guard.

Madison Heights police have not yet identified the victim or the suspect.
