Chicago: River North Shooting Leaves One Dead, Three Fighting for Their Lives

CHICAGO, IL – A late-December shooting in Chicago’s River North neighborhood left one dead and three victims in critical condition, according to reports. Police say they’re actively searching for four gunmen who remain unidentified and at large.

Authorities say the fatal shooting occurred during the early morning hours of December 28th along the 400 block of North La Salle Drive. At approximately 2:35 a.m., the four victims were reportedly entering a vehicle when four unidentified gunmen opened fire on all the vehicle occupants.

Police officials confirmed a 34-year-old male who was shot several times during the incident was pronounced deceased. The three remaining victims, identified only as a 36-year-old male, a 43-year-old male, and a 35-year-old male, were listed as being in critical condition as of this writing.

One of the surviving victims reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, another was shot in the back, and the remaining victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Officials have yet to release any details on potential motives or the suspects sought in connection with the shooting and are asking for the public’s assistance in the case.

Cook County Crime Stoppers Executive Director Paul Rutherford issued a statement likening the shooting to “a brazen and violent act” and issued a call for potential tipsters to reach out to police with any information that might help in the investigation.

“This was a brazen and violent act that took one life and left three others fighting for their lives,” Rutherford stated, adding, “Someone knows who is responsible. Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could be the key to bringing justice to the victims and their families.”

A cash reward of up to $10,000 is being offered by Cook County Crime Stoppers for any information that leads to an arrest in the ongoing investigation. Would-be tipsters can also submit information anonymously either by phone at 1-800-535-7867 or online at CPDTIP.com.
