Chicago: Venezuelan Migrant Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Teen Near Loyola University

CHICAGO, IL - A 25-year-old Venezuelan illegal alien was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, who was killed earlier in March while walking with friends during the early morning hours along the Loyola Beach Pier.

On March 19, Gorman was reportedly out walking with friends not far from her college campus at approximately 1:30 a.m., with the victim's family members saying she was out looking for the Northern Lights, when she was approached from behind and shot in the back. Gorman was pronounced dead at the scene with no other injuries reported.

Surveillance footage captured near the scene of the murder revealed a suspect who reportedly had a distinct gait, which aided investigators in identifying and taking into custody 25-year-old Jose Medina-Medina. According to a press release from Homeland Security, Medina-Medina is a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela who was apprehended by Border Patrol in 2023 under the Biden administration and was released into the country’s interior.

Medina-Medina has a prior arrest out of Chicago for shoplifting in June of 2023, which Homeland Security highlighted as being the second time he was released back into the community without having to answer for his prior immigration offense. A motive for the fatal shooting has not been shared by officials as of this writing.

Homeland Security Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis discussed Gorman’s murder, drawing a direct line from “open border policies and sanctuary politicians” to the tragic event that occurred at the Loyola Beach Pier.

“Sheridan Gorman had her whole life ahead of her before this cold-blooded killer decided to end her life,” Assistant Secretary Bis stated, adding, “She was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who released this illegal alien twice before he went on to commit this heinous murder.”
