CLEVELAND, OH – Authorities in Cleveland reportedly discovered the remains of two young girls stuffed inside a couple of discarded suitcases earlier in March, with officials noting that investigators are actively working to identify the two victims.
During a press conference held by Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd, the chief revealed that authorities discovered the bodies of two young children on March 2nd after being contacted by a passerby in the area of East 162 in Midland who believed they found human remains inside of a discarded suitcase.
The individual who contacted authorities had happened upon the suitcase while walking his dog at a field nearby an area school, according to officials, with responding officers noting the suitcase “was in a shallow grave” amid the field. As officers were canvassing the area, a second suitcase was also reportedly found in another makeshift shallow grave, with said suitcase harboring additional human remains.
Chief Todd said the medical examiner’s office took custody of the two bodies, with the chief describing the deceased as being “two juvenile black females” with one possibly being aged between 8 and 13 years old and the other aged somewhere between 10 and 14 years old.
A cause of death has not been determined regarding the young victims, with Chief Todd stating the two were not dismembered. Although officials have yet to ascertain precisely when the young girls died, Chief Todd did emphasize their passing wasn’t recent as the condition of the two bodies suggested it had been “some time” since they passed.
The two juveniles have not been linked to any outstanding missing persons cases, nor are there any suspects currently on the radar, Chief Todd confirmed, adding, “This is a priority. This is a traumatic event for our officers, for the community, and this is just such a tragic incident, but we are trying to develop any leads we can. That's why we're also asking for the community's help.”
While the circumstances of the case are harrowing, Chief Todd emphasized that police don’t believe there is any active threat to public safety regarding the case as it stands currently.
