Colorado slumlord agrees to surrender property overrun by Venezuelan illegal alien gangs

AURORA, CO - A slumlord is agreeing to give up a blighted apartment building in a Colorado community that had become the headquarters of a Venezuelan illegal alien criminal gang.

Zev Baumgarten will sell or lease the property, or make a "similar disposition," according to court records obtained by the Denver Gazette. Baumgarten was mired in a civil lawsuit filed by Aurora officials, charging him with dozens of code violations related to the condition of the apartment property at 1568 Nome St in the city.

The slumlord waived his right to a speedy trial in the arrangement, and has agreed to assume $60,000 of the costs related to the clean-up of the property. City officials previously evicted the inhabitants of the apartment en masse, citing the criminal nuisance that the property posed to the public.

The property in question previously became a point of concern for residents, with the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang establishing a presence in the building. Baumgarten had cited the presence of the gang as a factor in the property's condition, with his attempts to hire Aurora police officers not materializing. Baumgarten resides outside of Colorado, a fact of the case that became a point of contention for city officials.

"The situation is real but it also needs to be put into context so that the reputation of an entire city of over 400,000 residents is not adversely impacted by what has occurred in several isolated apartment buildings owned by the same out-of-state slum lord," Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman said of the situation.

Tenants and community members had previously taken aim at Baumgarten, blaming him for leaving numerous properties in the area in a state of disrepair. Baumgarten faces lawsuits from tenants for alleged mismanagement of other properties, according to Colorado Newsline. A separate property owned by Baumgarten was the scene of a gang-linked home invasion last month, according to the New York Post.

Colorado's Democratic governor sought to dismiss the illegal alien crime spree in the community as "imagination" in a statement released through a public relations agent late last month- only to reverse course and offer Aurora state law enforcement resources, according to the New York Post.

The state's Democratic elected officials have sought to funnel in illegal aliens at a rate higher than any other state since the beginning of President Joe Biden's tenure- with illegal aliens arriving at a higher per capita than anywhere else, according to the Colorado Sun.
