Connecticut Home's Dark Secret Uncovered After Buyer Makes Chilling Discovery

BURLINGTON, CT - A Connecticut homeowner who recently purchased a home "as is" at an auction discovered the skeletal remains of three people inside, according to Connecticut State Police (CSP).

CSP responded to the home, located at 7 Stanwich Lane at 4:46 p.m. on Sunday, June 14 after the new homebuyer discovered the remains. The identities of the three individuals have not been released, and the state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined a cause of death.

State police said there are no signs of foul play in the deaths or "indication of any criminal aspect" in the discovery. Authorities also noted that there is no ongoing danger to the public, First Coast News reported.

Christopher H. Thogmartin, the attorney who was appointed by the court to handle the sale of the home, said he has asked the court to extend the deadlines because the identity of the bodies could affect the validity of the foreclosure.

Residents in the area described hearing the discovery as terrifying. "It sounds very scary to see skeletons in a house," said Rocky Hill resident Vicky Havey, who often bikes nearby. "It's sad. Very sad."

Mark Chowaniec, another cyclist who regularly visits the area, said he was disturbed by the news. "I've never heard of anything like that happening anywhere that I knew about personally," Chowaniec said.

The four-bedroom home, built in 2002 and situated on more than two acres, appeared overgrown with shrubs, weeds and tall grass. Investigators believe the three people may have been dead for several months, ABC News 4 reported. Town records show the property was purchased in 2019 by Paul Cash and Sally Anne Cash for more than $800,000.

Burlington First Selectman Doug Thompson said he did not want to speculate about the case while the investigation remains active. CSP Western District Major Crime Unit is investigating the incident. Authorities said they will provide updates once a cause of death is determined and the identities of the three individuals are confirmed.
