MILFORD, CT - Recently released court documents have shed light on a possible motive behind a deadly home invasion in Connecticut that claimed the life of a 69-year-old man and left his significant other critically injured this past June.
On June 3, Milford Police responded to a reported shooting at a residence along the 800 block of East Broadway. When officers arrived, they discovered what appeared to be a home invasion turned deadly, finding 69-year-old Frederick Werner dead from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim’s wife, Sandy Cooper, suffered a gunshot wound to the head but ultimately survived.
Cooper was reportedly able to provide police with a description of the two men who entered her home and opened fire on the couple, further telling authorities that she believed a recently fired employee of hers may have been connected to the attack. Cooper was also able to identify one of the suspected attackers, telling police that 25-year-old Stuar Lopez Reyes was one of the two men who entered her home and opened fire.
Investigators were able to track down a vehicle reportedly registered to the former employee’s husband, which authorities say was near the scene of the shooting on the evening of the incident. Upon locating the vehicle, police found the two suspected shooters, Lopez Reyes and another man later identified as 24-year-old Ivan Barias-Florimon.
According to the warrant, Barias-Florimon texted Cooper’s former employee on the day she was fired, allegedly telling her, “I’ll make her life hell,” as well as, “Jus say the word I’ll f*** her life over,” with the former employee allegedly responding later, “We can talk tonight.”
Homeland Security confirmed the two suspects, who remain held on $3 million bond each, are Dominican nationals. The agency noted that it is working to have their respective green cards revoked in light of the charges. Authorities have not revealed the name of Cooper’s former employee, as she has not been formally charged with any crime in connection with the investigation.
