In political parlance, Indiana State Sen. Michael Bohacek, a “Republican” who represents the 8th Senate District in the Hoosier State, is a typical RINO who, doing his virtue signaling best, has promised to cut off his political nose to spite his face, RVM News reports.
As most people are well aware, Republicans currently control the House of Representatives by a razor-thin margin and every seat is an important one. Should Democrats regain control of the lower chamber next year, it is likely that President Trump’s America First agenda will come to a screeching halt and Democrats will spend the next two years impeaching Trump for everything. And Bohacek is planning to make damn sure that is going to happen.
Indiana, as with many states, has plans to redraw its congressional districts, which would provide a theoretical two additional Republican seats in this bright red state. However Bohacek has vowed to vote against the redistricting plan because he got his panties in a bunch over a Thanksgiving night X post by President Trump slamming Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).
On Thanksgiving, the president posted on X that he plans to halt all immigration–legal and illegal–from “third-world” countries and from those who have negative views about the United States, a promise that a majority of the American people likely support.
As he is prone to do, the president took to the post to slam Walz and Omar in rather colorful terms.
“The seriously retarded Governor of MInnesota, Tim Walz, does nothing, either through fear, incompetence, or both, while the worst ‘Congressman/woman’ in our Country, Ilhann Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came to the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother.”
It was his use of the word “retarded” to describe Walz that set Bohacek off, with the esteemed senator saying that due to Trump’s choice of language, he was going to vote against the redistricting plan. Did we mention that Bohacek did not take his pail and his shovel and go home? Bohacek complained that the use of that word was an insult to those with disabilities, including his daughter, who has Down Syndrome.
“Many of you have asked my position on redistricting. I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter. THose of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome,” Bohacek wrote on Facebook.
“This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences. I will be voting NO on redistricting, perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority.”
Quite understandably, Bohacek’s post drew swift condemnation from Republicans.
“What a freaking child,” wrote Florida’s Voice contributor Eric Daugherty. “Primary this weak ‘Republican.’ Outrageous. Grandstanding when our nation is at stake? Caving to Gavin Newsom and the Democrat Country-Destroyers is your play because you’re OFFENDED?”
Others slammed Bohacek for a previous drunk driving arrest. In January 2023, Bohacek was pulled over in Michigan City for a traffic stop, the Indiana Capital Chronicle reported. Despite being under the influence, Indiana’s constitution prohibits the arrest of a government official. Later that year, after the legislative session was over, Bohacek was booked for drunk driving.
On January 24, 2023, Bohacek was stopped after a citizen reported he was “drinking an open container and stumble out of his vehicle” at a Chinese restaurant. He was later pulled over and refused a breathalyzer test. He was taken to a hospital, and a blood test showed his BAC was 0.28%, over three times the Indiana limit of 0.08%.
In addition to refusing the breathalyzer, Bohacek also declined to participate in any field sobriety tests. The officer who stopped him said his eyes appeared “red and glassy.”
Despite advising Bohacek that under Indiana’s implied consent law, his license could be suspended for a year, Bohacek again refused. The officer ultimately applied for an arrest warrant for Bohacek.
In August 2023, Bohacek accepted a plea agreement to one count of operating while intoxicated. He received a 60-day suspended sentence and one year of probation. Instead of a license suspension, the court allowed him to operate his car using an ignition interlock device.
Several states have implemented new congressional maps, including several blue states. In contrast, right-leaning states like Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina have likewise redistricted to address what they called “census errors” that undercounted red states and benefited Democrats.
