Cops Associated with Popular LEO Podcast Suffer Tragic Accident. Let's Help Them

St. Louis, MO: Two St. Louis Metropolitan police officers are still recovering from a major vehicle accident related to a high-speed pursuit over two weeks ago, one of whom is still hospitalized.

Police officers Jeffrey Stoll and Kelly Smith were involved in a high-speed pursuit that led to a major accident that left two suspects killed and another injured.

It was reported that the chase, which started within city limits, ended on a highway after the suspects made a U-turn on the Highway 64 ramp facing oncoming traffic and then plowed into police vehicles containing Stoll and Smith.

Both officers were immediately rushed to the hospital and suffered serious injuries, including broken bones that required surgery.

Chief Robert Tracy told the media, “The type of collision that happened, our officers are very fortunate.”

Both Stoll and Smith are expecting a lengthy recovery. Stoll, who suffered more severe injuries, remains hospitalized and awaiting a lengthy recovery. Whether they each make a full recovery is still unclear at this time.

Both officers have crowdfunding accounts created on their behalf to help with quickly mounting medical expenses.

The tragic accident shook both the families of the officers and the St. Louis Metropolitan PD.

It also impacted one of the most popular pro-LEO podcasts in America, the Brighter Side of Blue, which has a large following and records at an on-site location.

“If you haven't seen our background, we're in the basement of a local tavern, Colombo's Cafe & Tavern, a long-time supporter of the police, and where we would often grab beers after work, so it kind of fits our style,” one of the hosts told LET.

The podcast, which features hosts who are from the LEO community and cover both serious and light-hearted topics, is close to the officers involved in the accident.

“I've attached a couple of our Facebook short links about these two officers [see them HERE and HERE]. They work for JJ, who is on this [email] thread and a co-host.  Both officers have lengthy recoveries coming,” they said. “Jeff is still in the hospital with an unknown release, still several surgeries to go.”
