Police: Son Killed Parents After Argument Over Helping With Rent

WATERBURY, CT - Authorities with the state of Connecticut said that a man from Waterbury allegedly executed both of his parents in their home after an argument broke out over his lack of contributions to the household.

The alleged suspect, 25-year-old Javian Adams, is now facing several charges for the alleged killings, including murder with special circumstances, felony murder, and criminal use of a weapon. He is also charged with burglary and larceny for a reported break-in the day after the murders, according to NBC Connecticut

Adams is accused of shooting his 51-year-old mother, Carlene Williams, and his 55-year-old father, Marc Adams. Officers discovered the victims after they responded to a report of an assault with a firearm at a home on Beverly Avenue around 11:00 p.m. They found Carlene Williams and Marc Adams inside.

Both had been shot. Police said Williams lived in the home, but the father did not live there. An arrest warrant states that Javian Adams had been arguing with his mother earlier in the day, and footage captured a man matching his description leaving and later returning to the home before the murders.

Witnesses told police that Javian Adams had a volatile relationship with his parents, and they frequently had arguments about Javian allegedly stealing money from his mom's bank account, the arrest warrant states.

Surveillance video captured an argument between Javian Adams and his mother on the day of the incident. His mother, Carlene, can be heard screaming, "You don't pay rent, you don't pay a bill, you don't even buy food." Javian then appears to say, "I don't care no more. F*ck what y'all say," according to the arrest warrant.

Javian Adams was taken into custody in Watertown, where he is suspected of having broken into a home. Authorities said they found Javian walking along Lake Winnemaug Road, and he was disoriented, cold, and wet, wearing only underwear and socks, the arrest warrant states.

Responding officers found his clothing in the water, but no weapon was recovered. Investigators noted that Javian Adams cooperated physically with authorities, but he did not respond to direct questions and was described as being in shock or emotionally detached.

In addition to the charges mentioned above, Javian has been charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and larceny of a motor vehicle, first offense. He was initially held on a $5 million bond, but after his arraignment on Wednesday, October 8, the bond was increased to $6 million for the murder and burglary charges.

Javian allegedly shot his mother and father execution-style on Monday night, October 6. Prosecutors said Javian shot his mom twice and his dad once in the back of the head before leaving their home, WFSB reported. His public defender said Adams contests the charges and maintains his innocence.

A murder charge with special circumstances carries the harshest penalty of any crime in Connecticut, with life imprisonment without the possibility of parole as the suggested sentence.

Javian has a criminal history and was on probation for prior arrests connected to domestic violence allegations, according to Waterbury police. An arrest warrant obtained by NBC Connecticut states that Javian was arrested for a previous domestic violence incident in which he allegedly punched and choked a woman in December 2024.

Police documented visible injuries and found a knife nearby, and he was charged with strangulation, assault, threatening, and risk of injury to a minor, the warrant reads.

Between 2024 and 2025, Javian reportedly failed to report to probation on multiple charges, and he was discharged from domestic violence counseling for nonattendance, according to the warrant.
