NASHVILLE, TN – A 47-year-old criminal illegal alien originally from Mexico was arrested this past July after allegedly injuring four pedestrians in a hit-and-run that occurred in mid-June in Nashville, with federal immigration authorities announcing that a detainer has been placed on the suspect, currently held on several state charges in Tennessee.
Nashville-based news outlet WKRN reported that 47-year-old Felipe Alvarado-Hernandez was arrested on July 29th in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred on June 13th at the intersection of Demonbreun Street and Music Circle East. Metropolitan Nashville Police Department officials say the suspect vehicle, a GMC Sierra pickup, had reportedly cut a left turn short and wound up driving onto the sidewalk where four pedestrians, two of whom were in wheelchairs, were struck.
Investigators reportedly reviewed surveillance footage of the incident and were able to link the vehicle to Alvarado-Hernandez, subsequently taking him into custody at his Antioch residence roughly a month and a half after the initial incident. Police say upon Alvarado-Hernandez’s arrest, he allegedly admitted to driving the vehicle during the incident.
Per WKRN’s late July report on the investigation, one of the four victims was still hospitalized at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Burn Unit for treatment of their sustained injuries. According to authorities, Alvarado-Hernandez is facing 21 charges, including failure to render aid, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, reckless endangerment, and driving on a revoked license.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a press release on August 18th regarding the case, confirming the agency has issued an immigration detainer for Alvarado-Hernandez with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. The agency further revealed Alvarado-Hernandez had previously agreed to an official removal from the country back in January of 2004 following an arrest in Roseville, Michigan, for retail fraud. It’s unclear when Alvarado-Hernandez reentered the country illegally.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans acting Field Office Director Scott Ladwig said in a statement on the matter, “When illegal aliens break our laws and endanger our communities, ICE will work with our law enforcement partners to ensure they face the consequences of their actions. Our officers remain committed to enforcing the law professionally, protecting the public, and upholding the trust placed in us by the American people.”
