Did a science-denying Nebraska state senator just threaten her state’s governor with physical violence?

OMAHA, NE – According to her X (Twitter) bio, Megan Hunt is a "State Senator in Omaha's District 8, Creative entrepreneur, Mom. Vice Chair of Urban Affairs. Bi queen. She/her.”

To show her disagreement with recent Executive Order signed by Governor Jim Pillen, she tweeted the following on the social media platform, “Today Governor Pillen, famous women's rights supporter, signed this offensive and ridiculous proclamation establishing a 'Women's Bill of Rights.' He should try saying this stuff to my face then we would see who’s got what biological advantage”

Now, the question being asked is if the last sentence of her post should be construed as a threat of violence.

The order in question that Pillen signed was related to protecting women. Executive Order 23-16 was entitled Establishing a Women’s Bill of Rights. It defines male and female, and then continues to say what a women and girls are, as well as men and boys.

“A person’s ‘sex’ is defined as his or her biological (either male or female) sex at birth,” says the order.
Females are defined as an individual whose reproductive system are designed to produce ova. Males on the other hand are those whose reproductive systems are designed to fertilize a female’s ova. Similarly, the order goes on to define mother and father.

The primary reasons for this EO are laid out by Pillen as points 2 and 3.

“2. There are legitimate reasons to distinguish between the sexes with respect to athletics, prisons or other detention facilities, domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centers, locker rooms, restrooms, and other areas where biology, safety, and/or privacy are implicated;

"3. Any public school or school district and any state agency, department, or office that collects vital statistics for the purpose of complying with antidiscrimination laws or for the purpose of gathering accurate public health, crime, economic, or other data shall identify each individual who is part of the collected data set as either male or female at birth.”

Defining men and women in the scientific way apparently did not sit well with Hunt, who has previously used X to go on the attack against people who have a tradtional view of gender and its role in society.

Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gains has been very outspoken about not allowing biological men to participate in women’s sports.

Hunt went after Gaines by telling her to "grow up," alleging that her feelings are just hurt because Lia Thompson, a man, swam faster than her for the win.

“It can be hard, when we're young, to not win a trophy sometimes. But we grow up and realize it’s not the end of the world and we don't need to turn that loss into our entire personality,” Hunt wrote after Gaines spoke to a group of people in Nebraska.

Gaines did not sit idly by regarding Hunt’s statement, firing back with, “It’s not about the trophy & never has been. That trophy is meaningless & devalued entirely. It’s about the message it sends to us. & it’s the same message you’re sending…that we don’t matter.

"Nebraska girls deserve better than you.”
