CHICAGO, IL - On Monday night, an off-duty Chicago police officer was returning home after his shift, and at least four armed men, one with a rifle, robbed him.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. when the 33-year-old male police officer was parking his car. A black Nissan pulled up, and multiple armed men jumped out, demanding his belongings, which included his duty weapon. Chicago Police Department radio traffic said the armed men took his badge, but investigators found it at the scene.

Radio traffic can be heard of the incident saying, "10-1 Belmont and LeClaire, 5 male blacks armed, wearing dark colors, took his star and duty weapon."

Unfortunately, this incident was one of at least seven related armed robberies that occurred Monday night, and it was not the first time armed men have robbed off-duty police in Chicago this year.

In January, a female officer who was off duty was trying to stop a robbery when she got attacked. She shot her assailant multiple times, killing him.

At the beginning of May, a group of men needing money for a barbecue shot and killed Officer Areanah Preston when she was returning home from her shift.

Multiple armed attackers ambushed an off-duty police officer as he was returning home at the end of his shift in May, leading to a gunfight. Fortunately, he got away with minor injuries.

In July, multiple individuals robbed two off-duty police officers in the West Loop during a robbery spree that lasted the entire weekend.

Also in July, a 51-year-old off-duty officer was in his Jeep Cherokee when three men ordered him out of his vehicle at gunpoint. His duty weapon was in the Jeep when they drove off.

Four men who yelled, "Just let it be," and "Don't do anything," robbed two off-duty Chicago cops in September. The robbers took the officers' key cards, which could be used to gain entry to the police stations, along with their police IDs.

On August 3rd, an ATF agent was robbed downtown on Michigan Ave.

Criminals often commit these robberies using stolen vehicles, for which there is no short supply. There have been over 15,000 cars stolen since Johnson took over in May, which averages out to more than 80 per day.

Chicago's mayor has referred to individuals committing crimes as "disenchanted youth" or "silly kids." However, critics say that there is a violence epidemic in the city in which the criminals have no fear, proven by their brazen attacks on police officers.

The criminals have no fear because they know there will be no repercussions from their actions. Somehow, punishing violent offenders has become “racist” by dint of decree from a vocal minority hell-bent on the destruction of rule of law.
