Police release full video following claims of brutality - and suddenly the media and activists are silent

EAU CLAIRE, WI - The Eau Claire Police Department has taken decisive action in response to allegations of police brutality, sparked by a brief video clip shared on social media. To provide full context, the department has released an unedited, nearly two-hour video capturing the entire incident, along with a shorter version for easier viewing.

The controversy began earlier this month when a two-minute video surfaced on a Facebook page named "Justice and Healing for Makayla." The video shows the arrest of MaKayla Patterson, with the original post alleging that Patterson was left bruised and traumatized by her interaction with the police.

According to a statement released by the police on Friday, Patterson had threatened officers during the encounter. To counter the claims made in the short video clip, the department made the entire footage public, showing what happened before, during, and after the arrest. The longer video includes footage from multiple cameras, providing different angles of the incident.

The incident in question took place in the early hours of July 27th at She-nannigans and Lucky's Bar on Water Street. Police were called to the scene by the bar staff after they had confiscated an ID from a woman they believed was underage. The woman, later identified as Patterson, was reportedly refusing to leave the premises and had allegedly threatened to "shoot" the staff members.

When officers arrived, they escorted Patterson and her friend outside the bar. The confrontation between the police and the women occurred on the sidewalk. In the video, police can be heard repeatedly asking for Patterson's name, which she refused to provide. The situation escalated when Patterson began making threats toward the officers, who then warned her about the consequences of her actions.

At one point during the confrontation, Patterson can be heard using offensive language and threatening, "This n***a smiling and s*** like I won't smack the s*** out of him” to an officer. Following this, the officer informed her that she would be arrested for threatening law enforcement. Patterson then resisted, backing away as officers moved to arrest her, leading to her being brought to the ground and handcuffed.

As a result of the incident, both women were charged. MaKayla Patterson, 22, faces multiple charges including felony threatening a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting an officer. Her friend, 19-year-old Keyana Robinson, was charged with disorderly conduct, and resisting an officer, and was cited for being underage in a bar. Both women are scheduled to appear in court in early September.

Eau Claire Police Chief Matt Rokus has stated that the incident is under thorough review, and the department is committed to transparency throughout the investigation. As of the latest update, it remains unclear whether the officers involved have been placed on any form of leave.

The full release of the video is intended to provide clarity and context, allowing the public to view the incident in its entirety and form their own judgments based on all available evidence.
