NEW YORK CITY, NY - One New York City Democrat is turning on the leaders of his party in the state after a man released from a psychiatric ward allegedly fatally stabbed three people in Manhattan.

Rep. Ritchie Torres of the Bronx took a combative tone in a letter adressed to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York Mayor Eric Adams after the killings- delivering criticism of his fellow Democratic politicians in a manner almost unheard of in the left-wing party, according to Fox News.

Torres called for the termination of the Department of Corrections official responsible for Ramon Rivera's early release from confinement. Rivera, an eight-time criminal offender, had been detained in the psychiatric ward of Bellvue Hospital, where he attacked a correctional officer.

Rivera was released from New York City's notorious Rikers Island jail just a month before his alleged stabbing spree in Manhattan. Law enforcement sources are describing the suspect as a recidivist commercial burglar, who is homeless.

"The bureaucrat in DOC [Department of Correction] who authorized the early release of Ramon should be fired. Those who cannot be entrusted with public safety should no longer be employed by the people of New York."

"We live in a city and state where the only people who seem to suffer consequences are the victims of crime and their loved ones. Enough is enough."

In a surprise development, Torres even likened Hochul to President Joe Biden in a tweet last week- describing the incumbent Democrat as a standard bearer who serves as a liability to her own party.

"These tragedies are preventable but neither the city nor the state seem to possess the political will to prevent them, despite having the tools to do so," Torres said of crime in New York City.

"The state refuses to grant the mayor the legal authority he needs to prevent dangerous people from roaming the streets. The city refuses to hold DOC accountable for the early release of a demonstrably dangerous criminal who went on a stabbing spree. The end result is incompetence that is not only destructive but deadly for New Yorkers."

The state of New York saw gains for President Donald Trump in a manner unprecedented for a Republican in decades, with Trump securing a massive 12 percent change to his losing margin in his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden, according to Politico. This political earthquake didn't go unnoticed to Torres, who has openly stated that failures of governance on the part of leading Democrats such as Hochul and Adams are to blame.

Political pundits have speculated that states such as New York and New Jersey could become competitive swing states in future presidential elections, potentially rewriting the electoral map in a manner that would create new structural challenges for any Democrat's path to the presidency.
