ERO Baltimore arrests illegal immigrant from Honduras who was convicted of assaulting Maryland resident

BALTIMORE, MD - A press release from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) details the arrest of an illegal immigrant from Honduras who was convicted of assaulting a Maryland resident.

On September 19th, officers with Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Baltimore arrested 26-year-old Evin Obdulio Ponce-Guillen in Waldorf. In a statement, ERO Baltimore acting Field Office Director Nikita Baker said:

"Evin Obdulio Ponce-Guillen unlawfully entered the United States, made his way to Maryland, and then victimized one of the members of our community. We have a duty to protect the residents of our Maryland communities from such violent noncitizen reprobates. ERO Baltimore will continue to prioritize public safety by apprehending and removing egregious noncitizen offenders."

Ponce unlawfully entered the United States on an unknown date, at an unknown location, and without being inspected, admitted or paroled by a U.S. immigration official. On September 5, 2023, the Charles County Police Department arrested Ponce and charged him with assault second degree. On April 5, 2024, the Circuit Court for Charles County convicted Ponce of assault second degree and sentenced him to five years in prison. The court then suspended three and a half years of the prison sentence.

Officers from ERO Boston arrested Ponce on September 19, 2024, in Waldorf and served him with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. As of this writing, Ponce remains in ERO custody.

ERO Baltimore apprehended 28-year-old Salvadoran gang member who was previously removed from the United States. Officers with ERO Baltimore and the Aberdeen Police Department arrested Kevin Mauricio Guzman-Martinez, a member of the notorious MS-13 street gang, on September 26th.

Baker said in a statement, "Not only did Kevin Mauricio Guzman-Martinez unlawfully re-enter the United States after having been previously removed from the country, but he is also a member of a notorious transnational criminal organization and represents a threat to the members of our Maryland communities. We consider the safety of our Maryland residents our top priority."

U.S. Border Patrol arrested Guzman on April 21, 2015, after illegally entering the United States near Hidalgo, Texas. Border Patrol agents served Guzman with an expedited removal order and ERO removed him to El Salvador on April 28, 2015. However, Guzman unlawfully re-entered the United States on an unknown date, at an unknown location and without being inspected, admitted or paroled by a U.S. immigration official.
