ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI - There is nothing so hilarious as watching a Democrat who got caught with their hand in a cookie jar try to avoid being called out for it, or, for that matter, asked questions about it. Such is the case of the former treasurer of the Michigan Democratic Party, who embezzled from an elderly woman suffering from brain damage, the Michigan Enjoyer reported.
Traci Kornak was initially snagged by journalist Charlie LeDuff over four years ago when he discovered Kornak had been helping herself to the victim’s finances. Unfortunately, the Michigan media was not interested and ignored the story, despite LeDuff making television appearances and writing several stories about it.
LeDuff said that Attorney General Dana Nessel, a close friend of Kornak, “opened a superficial investigation that was no investigation at all,” in between going after so-called “election deniers” who questioned the results of the 2020 election. Detectives assigned to Nessel “made a few cursory phone calls,” LeDuff said, before Nessel had them shut down the criminal case.
After the so-called “investigation,” Kornak continued swindling the elderly woman, at least according to a special fiduciary attorney, Morgan Maul.
“Using phrases like ‘significant discrepancies,’ and ‘missing assets’ and ‘concerns about charges,’ Maul asked Jolene Clearwater, the chief probate judge of Allegan County, for a six-month extension of his investigation into Kornak’s decade-long conservatorship over the woman’s finances,” LeDuff wrote.
The elderly victim died last April; however, the probate judge has some questions, such as what happened to the victim’s money, her condo, her insurance settlement from a car accident, her trust, and her estate plan. Moreover, she wants to know who actually made debit purchases on the date of her death.
Clearwater agreed to Maul’s requests but also ruled that Kornak, an attorney by trade, must pay for [Maul's] time. Kornak said nothing to defend herself, LeDuff wrote.
“Kornak was a suspected embezzler, and [Gov. Gretchen] Whitmer and Nessel [both Democrats] knew about the allegations. Nevertheless, they allowed her to continue in her political position as treasurer of the state Democratic Party,” LeDuff wrote.
He also alleged that Whitmer planned to appoint Kornak to the bench as soon as the criminal investigation concluded.
LeDuff, however, remained persistent. In fact, Nessel complained about a column LeDuff published in the Detroit News detailing her “unethical interference in the Kornak investigation.”
That column cost LeDuff his job.
Not to be deterred, LeDuff continued following the story. Now, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office completed a two-year investigation into Kornak’s handling of the elderly woman’s financial affairs and is recommending charges of felony embezzlement, which carries a 20-year prison term. Chris Becker, Kent County prosecutor, has the file on his desk. It is unknown if he will pursue charges.
LeDuff said he continued to seek answers from those in power, including Whitmer, Nessel, officials within the Michigan Democratic Party, the Attorney Grievance Commission, the Probate Court, and the media. Nobody cared.
Last week, LeDuff decided to ask Kornak herself, confronting her as she exited a courtroom and asking her questions as she desperately tried to find the elevator, The Western Journal reported. LeDuff posted the video on YouTube, with some highlights noted below.
“Ms. Kornak,” LeDuff greeted her with a microphone as she exited the courtroom. “Sounds to me like the judge thinks you embezzled from a brain-damaged old lady. You have any comment on that?”
Kornak and her attorney walked in the opposite direction, desperately trying to locate the elevator, however it soon became clear they had no clue where they were going.
“Can you tell me what happened?” he asked Kornak.
“Stop touching me,” Kornak protested to LeDuff, although it wasn’t clear if the two had made contact.
“Don’t you think you shouldn’t have touched the woman’s money?” LeDuff asked.
Kornak, clearly agitated, started to answer, “Don’t you think that you shouldn’t have…,” whereby her brain fizzled out.
LeDuff then asked her, “Did you collude with the attorney general to make this case go away? Do you think she should be impeached?”
“Stop touching me,” Kornak replied, again claiming LeDuff touched her, which the video shows did not happen.
Still desperately looking for an elevator, Kornak walked through a door and then immediately walked back out of it. Then LeDuff dropped the money shot.
“So. Where do you think this ranks in terms of skullduggery? Pedophiles? Puppy abusers? And people who steal old people’s money?” he asked.
Kornak was finally able to find an elevator and escape the well-deserved browbeating from LeDuff, attempting to hide behind her attorney in the process.

As Michael Schwarz, writing for The Western Journal, asked, “What is it about the Democratic Party that attracts miserable, corrupt, prickly, unhinged, violence-mongering, demon-possessed malcontents?”
Just as we may never know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, we may very well never know the answer to that question. That is why, as conservative Mark Levin says, Democrats must be defeated.
