ATLANTA, GA – In the wake of the passing of a DeKalb County Police officer who died in the line of duty earlier in August, a GoFundMe established to help ease the financial burden on the wife and children he is survived by has seen massive support at both the local and national level – garnering over $350K in donations since its inception.
DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose unfortunately passed away on August 8th after the 33-year-old husband and father of two, with another on the way at the time of his death, responded to an active shooter call at the CDC building located at Emory University.
Officer Rose was reportedly among the first on the scene to encounter the now-deceased gunman, identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White, where the officer sustained apparent gunshot wounds to which he succumbed to after being rushed to an area hospital following the arrival of backup officers.
The passing of Officer Rose understandably shook the local community, as he’d only been with the department for 11 months at the time of his death, with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens saying of the fallen officer, “Officer Rose’s passing is a stark reminder that every day, law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect others, and this dedication deserves our respect and gratitude.”
A GoFundMe was established by the late officer’s family in an effort to ease the financial hurdles associated with the likes of funeral costs and the stark reality of a family losing a husband and father, with a humble goal of $11K as of August 11th.
The opening excerpt from the fundraiser reads, “Officer David Rose was more than a dedicated public servant - He was a loving father, a devoted husband, a cherished brother, and a loyal friend. His kindness, courage, and unwavering commitment to his family and community touched the lives of everyone who knew him.”
In the closing portion of the fundraiser page’s details, would-be donors are asked for their “support - whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign - to stand beside the Rose Family just as David stood beside all of us during the tragedy that occurred on August 8, 2025,” and it seems that call to action was answered in a way likely unimaginable by the fallen officer’s loved ones.
After the DeKalb County Police Department shared the fundraiser on social media, support for the fallen officer’s family came flooding in, garnering over $350K in donations as of the morning of August 12th.
Words of support have flooded the GoFundMe page’s comment section in tandem with the donations, with DeKalb County locals and law enforcement supporters from across the country sharing their condolences and championing Officer Rose as a hero.
