Florida ICE agents arrest 18 illegal immigrants in 'targeted enforcement operation'

MIAMI, FL -  Federal officers with the U.S. Immigrations Customs and Enforcement and Removal Operations Miami Stuart Sub-Office working together with Border Patrol Agents tracked down and arrested 18 illegal immigrants as part of "Operation Drumbeat," a targeted enforcement operation for subjects posing a threat to public safety.

According to a press release from the Miami Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) office, the individuals targeted were allowed to participate in the "Alternatives to Detention" program brought about by the Biden Administration which has resulted in several major failures of enforcement in recent months and failed to meet the conditions for their release.

These illegal immigrants deemed a threat to public safety based on their criminal convictions were arrested in Southeastern Florida from July 8th through 11th.

Among the illegal immigrants were nine Guatemalan nationals, three Mexican nationals, four Hondurans, one Chinese national, one Jamaican, and one Colombian.

In a statement, Garrett Ripa, ERO Miami Field Office Director, said, "ERO is focused on smart, effective immigration enforcement that protects citizens throughout Florida by arresting and removing those who undermine our immigration laws and pose a safety threat to our communities. The ATD program is a privilege, and when noncitizens violate the conditions of their release by breaking other laws, there are consequences."

The illegal immigrants arrested had criminal histories which included "racketeering, conspiracy, extortion, weapons charges, driving under the influence, cocaine possession, domestic violence, child abuse, hit and run, burglary, criminal mischief, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and resisting an officer."

ICE detailed six of the offenders as examples. One of them, a 31-year-old Guatemalan man, was reportedly arrested for battery and child abuse. He is now pending removal from the U.S.

The last group removed by the Miami ERO was four Dominican nationals wanted for murder and armed robbery in April.
