Former Kansas News Anchor Brutally Slayed Her Own Mom, Cops Say

WICHITA, KS – A former Fox affiliate anchor who worked out of St. Louis through the early to mid-2010s was charged with first-degree murder in late October after authorities responded to a Wichita home where the suspect’s elderly mother was found to have sustained “multiple stab wounds” that proved to be fatal.

On October 31st, Sedgwick County Police arrested 47-year-old Angelynn Mock on suspicion of first-degree murder, with investigators claiming the former news anchor fatally stabbed her 80-year-old mother earlier that same morning.

Police first arrived at the scene of the incident at approximately 7:52 am for what was apparently described over dispatch as a “reported cutting.” However, when police entered the Wichita home in question, responding officers discovered the victim, Anita Avers, “unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds.”

Mock was standing outside of the home when police arrived on scene, with officials noting the suspect was also treated at an area hospital for nondescript injuries. Avers, despite being rushed to an area hospital, was declared deceased later that morning.

The former Fox 2 St. Louis anchor allegedly told the 911 operator who took the initial call that she stabbed her mother in order “to save herself,” suggesting the accused murderer intends to establish a self-defense claim as her case plays out through the courts.

A witness to the aftermath of the fatal incident, identified as Alyssa Castro, told local news outlet KAKE that Mock had asked if she could use her phone to call the police. Detailing the shocking encounter, Castro stated, “There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911.”

Castro noted that Mock seemed to be in a state of shock or hysteria, telling the news outlet, “I asked her if she was okay, and she was pretty shooken up and she seemed scared, and she just ran off.” While not commenting on whether she thought Mock was guilty of the charged crime, Castro says she’s “glad” that her and her boyfriend inside the vehicle “were able to help” in getting first responders to the scene.

Details on Mock’s next slated court appearance are not available as of this writing.
