BEDFORDSHIRE, U.K.- The Daily Mail reported that a former senior policy adviser to the Obama administration has been charged in Britain with child sex offenses.
Rahamim “Rami” Shy, 46, stands accused of arranging the commission of a child sex offense and possession of two Category C indecent images of children and possession of a prohibited image of a child. Shy worked for the White House under Obama and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, serving in the capacity of coordinating the government’s strategy to combat al Qaeda and Taliban terrorists.
Shy, a U.S. citizen who currently lives in New Jersey, was arrested in late February by Bedfordshire Police and charged the following day. He appeared in court via video link from HMP Bedford last week. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded in custody until his case is heard in June.
Shy was most recently employed at CitiCorp as an executive. He previously worked in a senior role in the U.S. Treasury Department from 2008 to 2014 in an advisory position, advising officials on countering the financing of terrorism and assisting foreign governments in imposing sanctions on hostile regimes.
Shy worked as a senior advisor to Richard Holbrooke, a former ambassador to the United Nations who served under three Democratic presidents. Prior to working at CitiGroup, Shy, a career Washington, D.C. bureaucrat, provided strategic policy analysis to various chiefs of staff at the Department of Defense.
Shy was also deployed to Afghanistan, where he provided expertise to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), which was put in place to maintain stability following the U.S.-led military operation in that country after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Shy studied at Rutgers University in New Jersey and went on to study international security policy at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in New York.
The Daily Mail contacted CitiCorp and was told that Shy is no longer employed there.
The New York Post said that Shy’s LinkedIn and other social media accounts appear to have been scrubbed.
