FT. MCCOY, WI— U.S. Army Colonel Sheyla Baez Ramirez was reportedly suspended from duty as Commanding Officer of Fort McCoy, an Army Reserve military training center near Tomah and Sparta, Wisconsin after it was revealed that portraits of President and Commander-in-Chief Donald J. Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were not displayed on the base’s chain of command per Army regulations.
According to The New York Post, Col. Ramirez was suspended as the garrison commander of Ft. McCoy, but according to a statement from the US Army Reserve Command, “This suspension is not related to any misconduct.” The Army Reserve Command added, “We have no further details to provide at this time while this matter is under review.”
SecDef Hegseth reposted a report to X, detailing that “Commander of Fort McCoy, whose base chain-of-command board was missing photos of Trump, Vance and Hegseth, has been SUSPENDED.”
The Official Rapid Response Account For The US Department of Defense, DOD Rapid Response issued a post on April 14th “Regarding the Ft. McCoy Chain of Command wall controversy…. WE FIXED IT! Also, an investigation has begun to figure out exactly what happened.”
Following that post, Ramirez was suspended as garrison commander.
As reported by WPR a post to Facebook from the U.S. Army Reserve stated that Fort McCoy’s leadership team “were unaware of the vandalism of the Leadership Board”
“We take matters such as this seriously, and our primary concern is ensuring that all legal and appropriate actions are taken in accordance with our commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct among our Soldiers and civilian personnel,” said the Army Reserve post.
Speaking to WPR, 88th Readiness Division Director of Public Affairs Chris Hanson confirmed that Col. Sheyla Baez Ramirez “has been suspended as Garrison Commander at Fort McCoy,” but noted that the suspension of the Colonel will not affect the Fort’s “busy training season.”
