Georgia Police Kill Armed Suspect After Domestic Incident Turns into High-Speed Chase Down I-20

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA - A 52-year-old man was fatally shot by Villa Rica Police officers earlier in February following a response to a high-speed domestic pursuit involving the deceased suspect and his wife, which escalated quickly after officers stopped the vehicle along I-20.

On the afternoon of February 13, Villa Rica Police responded to a domestic incident where a male suspect, identified as Jorge Narvaez, was allegedly pursuing his wife and another vehicle occupant along various roadways in Douglas County. Numerous witnesses to the pursuit called 911, believing they were observing some kind of road rage incident in real time.

One witness speaking to a local news outlet about the incident stated, “We see two people pass us kind of swerving through the highway, through the other vehicles. We thought they were playing. The next thing I know, I see them bump into each other, getting out of the emergency lane. At that point, I’m like, ‘Okay, they’re actually not playing.’”

Officers reportedly caught up with both the suspect and the victims’ vehicles near the Post Road exit on I-20 Eastbound, with both vehicles stopping for the Villa Rica officers. Authorities say that as Narvaez exited his vehicle, he began brandishing a firearm while walking toward the vehicle his wife was in.

Two Villa Rica officers reportedly opened fire on the armed suspect, with Narvaez being declared deceased at the scene shortly thereafter. No officers or bystanders were reportedly injured during the officer-involved shooting. The deceased’s body has since been transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab in Decatur, where an official autopsy will be conducted.

The Villa Rica Police Department requested that the GBI lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which is standard operating procedure for all officer-involved shootings that occur within the state. Officials have not revealed the identities of the officers involved in the fatal incident.

A press release from the GBI regarding the incident confirmed their handling of the investigation, further noting, “Once the investigation is complete, the case will be given to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.”
