Georgia: Targeted Crime Suppression Detail Sees 26 Arrests and Seizes Guns, Drugs

COLUMBUS, GA - A targeted crime suppression detail resulted in dozens of arrests and the seizure of multiple illegal items, according to the Columbus Police Department (CPD).

On Friday, June 12, CPD's Special Operations Unit focused on citywide enforcement to address criminal activity across the community. During the operation, officers made contact with 311 individuals, conducted 221 traffic stops and issued 116 citations, WTVM reported.

The operation led to the arrest of 26 individuals. Over the course of the operation, police also seized a significant amount of contraband, including: two firearms (both stolen); nearly 148 grams of marijuana; 20 miscellaneous pills and drug-related objects; and $9,274 in U.S. currency.

Out of the 26 individuals arrested, crimes include the following: possession of marijuana; federal indictment warrant; obstruction (felony); attempt to disarm officer; contempt of court warrant; criminal damage to property warrant; battery warrant; theft by receiving stolen property; driving while license suspended; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; possession of drug-related objects; sale of marijuana; violation of probation; battery-family violence warrant; fleeing or attempting to elude; possession of handgun by person under 18; and possession of firearm during the commission of a crime.
