Georgia Girl Used Funeral Speech and Social Media to Cover Up Parents’ Murders: Report

CARROLL COUNTY, GA - A teenage girl facing murder charges for the shooting deaths of her mother and stepfather allegedly used social media and a tearful funeral speech to try and cover her tracks and keep investigators at bay.

Authorities said that 17-year-old Sarah Patrick shot her parents to death and later called 911 after the bodies were found by her five-year-old sister, according to the Lawyer Herald.

Patrick's mother, Kristen Brock, 41, and her stepfather, James Brock, 45, were found unresponsive in their bedroom.

Carroll County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) spokesperson Ashley Husley said that police had "mountains of evidence" that led them to Patrick as the alleged shooter.

In a recent press conference, Husley did not discuss details of the case, describing it as an active and open investigation.

Authorities said that Patrick attempted to cover her tracks publicly, including a tearful speech at her parent's funeral, the New York Post reported.

During the press conference, Husley was asked about social media posts made on behalf of Patrick in the aftermath of her parent's death and whether police suspected that she had put people up to making posts in an attempt to cover her tracks.

"Considering that she didn't immediately tell us what happened, yes," Husley said. "But who knows what's going on in a young person's mind."

The investigation remains ongoing as police are trying to determine whether anyone else was involved.

Since the murders, Patrick as reportedly been staying at the homes of various relatives. Husley described the case as "horrific and sad." Patrick has been charged as an adult as investigators are still exploring possible motives for the murders.

"We don't know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents," Husley said. Patrick has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault, according to People Magazine.

Husley cited "mountains of physical and digital evidence" and "countless interviews" as being what led to the charges against Patrick.

The Brocks were known as warm and generous members of the community, FOX5 reported. They were active at Catalyst Church in Carrollton, where members described them as deeply kind-hearted and selfless.

"Kristen was bubbly and fun, and she loved hugs. She never met a stranger," said church member Tasha Meza, who had invited the couple to join the congregation. "And James, he was a comical kind of guy. He would always crack jokes and make you laugh," she added.
