Grandmother in stolen truck with six-year-old grandchild leads Massachusetts on chase through town

FOXBOROUGH, MA - Foxborough police placed a 55-year-old grandmother under arrest after the woman reportedly stole a pickup truck with her six-year-old grandson inside and led police on a chase through the town.

The chase began when Foxborough police officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop based on a BOLO (Be-On-The-Lookout) from police in nearby Norton, MA, according to WJAR. According to Norton Police, authorities there received a report of a vehicle theft when the woman and child entered the Ford F-150 pickup truck and sped off.

Norton PD attempted to stop the woman who fled from officers. Foxborough police engaged in the pursuit, assisted by Massachusetts State Police who deployed stop sticks to slow the vehicle. With the vehicle disabled shortly after, the woman was successfully arrested. In the course of her flight from police, the mother collided with three Foxborough police cruisers, the department said.

Video was captured by Scott MacEachern of 7News, showing the woman fleeing the officers through town.

Foxborough Police Chief Michael Grace told Boston25 News that the woman refused to stop the vehicle even with flattened tires, until she was boxed in by police. She then refused to get out of the vehicle once stopped.

“Still sitting in the car, shifting the car, trying to drive away, the officers closed in on the car. Doors were all locked. Couldn’t get into the car, ended up having to smash the windows the number one priority was to remove the child,” Chief Grace told reporters. He added, “Officer Nagle removed the child from the passenger side, the child was safe,” per WJAR.

Both the grandmother and grandchild were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The grandmother, who is also the child’s legal guardian, is expected to face multiple charges and could be arraigned as early as Friday.
