Houston Man Charged with Felony After Sneaking onto LA-Bound Flight Using Counterfeit Ticket

HOUSTON, TX - A 25-year-old man from Houston, Texas, is facing felony charges after authorities allege he used a counterfeit boarding pass to get on a flight at George Bush Intercontinental Airport this past May only to be later discovered aboard the flight as the aircraft was taxiing away from the gate.

Authorities say 25-year-old Abdulrahman Oluwatumike Oriyomi had entered George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston on May 18th, successfully getting through TSA and the subsequent security screening out of Terminal C. Thereafter, authorities say Oriyomi attempted to scan a fraudulent boarding pass at one of the departure gates, but was unsuccessful.

According to officials, Oriyomi was seemingly undeterred by the first mishap with the boarding pass, allegedly strolling around the airport before finding a United Airlines departure gate where he allegedly took advantage of the distracted gate agents and boarded United Flight 469 headed to Los Angeles without issue.

While on the aircraft, a witness reportedly told police they noticed the suspect was seated near her assigned seat before moving around the aircraft, later learning the seat Oriyomi allegedly attempted to occupy was purchased by another flyer.

Flight attendants were later alerted to a passenger that was inside of the lavatory while the plane was taxiing away, prompting a confrontation between airline employees and Oriyomi where they learned that he didn’t have an assigned seat on the flight. Due to the situation, the plane returned to the gate where Houston Police alongside federal authorities were waiting to investigate the matter.

Upon examining the boarding pass Oriyomi allegedly had in his possession, investigators found some inconsistencies between the presented ticket and bona fide boarding passes, such as the absence of relevant flight information and the standard QR code used for ticket scanning purposes.

Oriyomi was subsequently arrested and later charged with a felony count of impairing or interrupting the operation of a critical infrastructure facility, with bail being set at $25,000. While the suspect was successfully apprehended before the flight took off and is having his day in court, concerns are being raised about the multiple layers of security breached during the alleged offense.

One commenter on social media responding to the news of Oriyomi’s arrest stated, “How does someone just walk onto a plane undetected in 2026? TSA, airline staff, gate agents - multiple layers failed here. Glad he was caught, but this exposes serious gaps.”

Neither United Airlines nor TSA have issued any public statements regarding the concerns around airline security relating to this incident as of this writing.
