CHICAGO, IL - A group of fans at the White Sox game on Sunday, August 23, got into a brawl during the 2-1 win over the Mets. The brawl nearly took over an entire section, with bystanders fleeing the area.
Several others whipped out their phones to record the incident, while some rushed over to get involved. At one point, a fan jumped down two rows and landed feet-first onto a man's stomach after he was pushed to the ground, according to the New York Post. That man then grabbed his attacker by the shirt and aggressively flung him down another row of seats, somehow losing his own shirt in the process.
The entire stadium was in shock as the crowd turned their attention away from the field. Even as security guards, some wielding handcuffs, showed up to break up the fight, fans could be seen continuing to point and shout at each other. One man even defied the security guard restraining him to get in one last hit before he was held back by the arm.
This is the second melee involving White Sox fans in less than a week, following a viral incident during Chicago's Crosstown Classic at Wrigley Field. Multiple fans were arrested during that game for an unrelated infraction. It remains unclear what led to this ruckus, but video showed a fan in a white Cubs jersey yelling toward a group of fans standing together a few rows behind him, with that crowd appearing to wear black and gray White Sox colors.
The brawl captured the attention of Cubs star and potential NL MVP Pete Crow-Armstrong, who hit a two-run walk-off homer and also homered in the first inning, joining the 30-30 club. "The fights in the stand are unfortunate and somewhat nauseating," he said, "but you got people in the stands competing too."
That brawl was between rivals, while this recent one appeared to be mostly friendly fire between White Sox fans.
