San Diego ICE Agents Nab Twice-Deported Illegal Alien After Crash Into Government Cars

SAN DIEGO, CA – A twice-deported illegal alien from Mexico was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents earlier in August after officials say a vehicle stop went briefly awry when the suspect attempted to flee the stop, crashing into government vehicles in the process.

An unnamed illegal immigrant was apprehended by ICE on August 11th, according to a press release from the agency, highlighting that the Mexican national had already been deported from the country twice prior to the August encounter via a joint operation in San Diego. The unnamed alien reportedly harbors a prior DUI conviction and had found his way into the country illegally on two separate occasions in October of 2020 by way of “hiding in the trunk of a vehicle that made its way through the San Ysidro Port of Entry.”

During the latest encounter with the alien, officials say ICE agents were conducting a vehicle stop when the driver tried to flee the area upon agents approaching the vehicle. While the alien made his attempt to flee the scene, he reportedly crashed into two government vehicles and injured one federal officer in the process. Authorities say the suspect was taken into custody without further incident shortly thereafter.

Patrick Divver, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) San Diego Field Office’s director, commented on the apprehension in question, mentioning that “despite the challenges” associated with this particular apprehension, immigration authorities remain committed to upholding public safety.

“This operation demonstrates the commitment of ERO officers to enforcing federal immigration laws and protecting public safety,” Director Divver stated, adding, “Despite the challenges encountered, our officers remain dedicated to carrying out their duties with professionalism.”

Shawn Gibson, who serves as Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) San Diego’s special agent in charge (SAC), highlighted the ever-increasing dangers immigration authorities are facing amid the heated political climate, emphasizing that immigration authorities won’t be bowing down to real or perceived threats.

“The arrest of this individual for assaulting ICE officers underscores our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the safety of law enforcement personnel and holding offenders accountable,” SAC Gibson said, further adding, “We will not tolerate violence against law enforcement, and we are resolute in our pursuit of justice.”

SAC Gibson’s comments come mere days after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed ICE agents “are now facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them as they risk their lives to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens,” a phenomenon the White House has attributed in part due to the anti-ICE “rhetoric” coming from elected democrats and their acolytes.
