Minneapolis, MN: Border Czar Tom Homan took to the press this week to publicly announce he will be reducing the number of federal law enforcement officers by approximately 700 personnel, leaving roughly 2,000 to continue operations.
In the public address, Homan cited an “unprecedented cooperation” from twin city officials who were only recently displaying federal agent mistrust and declaring anti-ICE rhetoric.
The move came several weeks after Operation Metro Surge began late last year. It followed the outbreak of massive fraud allegations that occurred within the city, which led to the withdrawal of Democratic Governor Tim Walz from his re-election plans.
Since Border Czar Homan’s surge, a lot has changed.
“We have made significant progress under the direction of President Trump working with the state and local officials here in Minnesota and I expect that to increase in the coming weeks,” Homan told the press.
He continued, “We currently have an unprecedented number of counties communicating with us now and allowing ICE to take custody of illegal aliens before they hit the streets. Unprecedented cooperation.”
With local cooperation from officials and from the jails, Homan stated the process to apprehend and transport a criminal illegal alien is simplified.
“I’ll say it again, this is efficient. It requires only one or two officers to assume custody of a criminal alien target rather than eight or ten officers going into the community arresting that public safety threat,” he said.
“This is smart law enforcement, not less law enforcement,” Homan added.
The progress came a long way from agitators and aggressive protesters interfering, often assaulting federal officers.
“My goal was, with the support of President Trump, to achieve a complete drawdown. End the surge as soon as we can,” Homan said. “But that is largely contingent upon the end of the illegal and threatening activities against ICE.”
Homan also noted that the cooperation from city and jail officials will improve the quality of life for city residents, as local police officers can shift their focus.
“Further less public safety risks are being released back into the communities reduces recidivism so local law enforcement can direct their limited resources to other public safety matters in their community,” he stated.
Homan also assured Americans that he will not reduce the personnel needed to ensure the physical safety and security of his agents.
“We will not draw down on personnel providing security for our officers,” he added. “I will not let our officers be put at risk, so we will not draw down on personnel providing security and respond to hostile incidents.”
There is widespread concern by law enforcement experts that the cooperation between city officials and ICE could only be temporary.
“This is one of the conditions President Trump set for a draw down,” Leavitt said in a statement.
She added, “These commitments have been made by local officials, and will continue to be monitored for compliance.”
Statements were made to remind the press that a drawdown will not reduce the importance of the mission throughout the country.
“I want to be clear. Just because you prioritize public safety threats don’t mean we forget about everybody else. We will continue to enforce the immigration laws in this country,” Homan said.
Keep up the good work Border Czar!
