‘Horses, Hops & Cops’ Fundraiser Raises Money for New Orleans Police Mounted Unit

NEW ORLEANS, LA - A fundraiser held earlier in February to benefit the New Orleans Police Department's (NOPD) Mounted Unit proved to be a success, according to police officials, as the department was able to secure funding for three additional horses for their mounted unit.

On February 4, the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation held its annual “Horses, Hops & Cops” fundraising event at the NOPD stables located within the New Orleans neighborhood of City Park, with proceeds from the event going toward the unit.

The event advertised self-guided tours of the horse stables, appearances from the renowned Budweiser Clydesdales, and a raffle drawing during the evening. An equestrian soccer game between the NOPD Mounted Unit and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office that was slated to take place during the event was reportedly canceled due to the previous day’s rain impacting conditions on the court.

Live entertainment in the form of a DJ was also present at the event, as well as numerous local and national food and beverage vendors, alongside arts and crafts activities aimed at the whole family.

Some of the raffle prizes that were available during the fundraising event included a Krewe of Muses Horse-themed shoe, dinner for two at either Austin’s Steakhouse or Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar & Fish House, two tickets for the Saenger Theatre’s performance of Phantom of the Opera, tickets to either the local aquarium or zoo, and numerous other gift cards or experiences.

NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed that the event, alongside the fundraising efforts from the Krewe of Endymion, the Krewe of Bacchus, and the Mystical Order of the Phoenix, helped in raising enough money to secure three additional horses.
