Hotel Staff Opened the Door to an Unthinkable Tragedy

HOUSTON, TX- Police in Houston last week responded to a horrific scene at a local hotel, where a mother shot and killed her two four-year-old children before committing suicide, authorities said.

ABC-13 in Houston said police responded to the Marriott Residence Inn on Kirby drive, located not far from NRG Stadium for a reported shooting. Police said that hotel staff noticed someone had been in the room since Wednesday, July 1, and had not been heard from. When hotel staff went to check the room, they found the 40-year-old mother dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a boy and girl, both four-years-old, who were also dead from gunshot wounds.

“Right now, preliminarily, we believe this to be a murder-suicide,” Houston PD Lt. Larry Crowson said. “This does appear to involve mental health issues.”

“Very tragic today–two children unfortunately killed at a very young age,” he continued, according to PEOPLE.

Officials said it is uncertain when the shootings occurred, however it doesn’t appear they occurred on Friday.

The murder-suicide is being investigated by the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division. Police did not divulge the name of the victims at this time.

PEOPLE Magazine reached out to the Marriott for comment, however none was received.

Crowson encouraged anyone experiencing mental health issues to call 311 or 211 for assistance.
