The newest episode of “Sheepdog and Shepherd” delivers one of the series’ most powerful stories yet, as hosts Kyle and Greg sit down with Scott Andry, founder of Earn the Day Foundation. What begins as a conversation about a South African safari hunt shifts to a testimony of faith and a mission to support families of law enforcement officers in crisis.
Andry explains that the foundation was born after the death of his son-in-law, Orange County SWAT Officer Michael Milmerstadt, who suffered a traumatic brain injury during training.
“He suffered during the training session, he suffered a traumatic brain injury, and pretty much spent three days in ORMC in intensive care with the whole family,” Andry said. He recalls the outpouring of support at the hospital, noting, “There were easily 40 officers that morning in the lobby of ORMC, including the Undersheriff and everybody, were there in a circle praying for Mike.”
Those moments shaped the foundation’s mission. “We help other families, law enforcement families that are in the middle of a crisis… When they're at the hospital, we're at the hospital,” Andry explained. The organization steps in long before insurance or benefits arrive, helping with lodging, meals, childcare, and even emergency travel.
The episode also explores how faith carried Andry through loss. “Always been me and Jesus… It's a personal relationship,” he said, reflecting on years marked by the deaths of his father, mother, and Milmerstadt. “If there wasn't something more, you wouldn't be able to handle it… You got to have the faith that there is something more.”
Hosts Kyle and Greg highlight a larger spiritual shift they see among first responders, and Andry agrees that something is happening. “Everything starts with a prayer… Everything is centered on that,” he said of law enforcement gatherings in Central Florida. “I hope it's revival.”
Before the episode closes, Andry shares details about the foundation’s annual “Ruck for Mike,” a 72-mile, 26-hour challenge that draws hundreds. “Mike did everything a little bit bigger,” he said with a smile.
“Sheepdog and Shepherd” ends by encouraging viewers to support Earn the Day’s mission to serve the families who stand behind America’s guardians in their darkest hours.
