Huge brawl in Chicago’s Pritzker Park leaves migrant stabbed, cop injured; police declare emergency

Chicago, IL – A massive brawl erupted in Pritzker Park in downtown Chicago on Friday evening, leading to a police emergency, a migrant being stabbed, and a police officer injured.

The incident began around 9:08 p.m. near the Standard Club migrant shelter at 320 South Plymouth. Chicago police officers initially requested backup when they saw a large group dispersing.

One officer noticed someone wrapping an injured arm, but the group was uncooperative and moved back to Plymouth Court. Three minutes later, the situation escalated. Officers reported a fight involving 70 to 80 people in Pritzker Park.

A 23-year-old migrant, residing at the Standard Club, was found with a severe cut on his left arm. It's unknown whether the migrant is in the country legally. According to a police statement, the victim claimed he was attacked with a knife by an unknown person in the crowd.

Police recovered a knife at the scene. Surveillance video showed the injured man brandishing a knife and charging into the crowd before being stabbed by someone.

Around 10:16 p.m., clashes resumed, prompting the assigned patrol unit to declare a “10-1” police emergency. This call is used when officers are in life-threatening situations, mobilizing police from across the city. In the chaos, a police officer suffered a broken finger while trying to control the crowds.

At least three people were arrested during the melee. The injured migrant was transported to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition.

The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, with no arrests made so far.
