HOLLYWOOD, CA - On Sunday, December 31, 2023, actor Ian Ziering was reportedly caught on video camera in a verbal altercation, which escalated to a physical fight with a group of people riding motorized mini bikes through the streets of Hollywood.
Ziering, best known for playing the role of Steve Sanders for nearly 10 years in "Beverly Hills 90210," broke the silence about what happened in a long post on his Instagram page the day after, which was New Year's Day. He wrote, "Yesterday, I experienced an alarming incident involving a group of individuals on mini bikes. While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation."
He added, "I an attempt to assess any damage I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself." Officers reportedly responded to the area of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue around 3:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve on reports of a fight.
Even with Ziering's Instagram post, it is still unclear exactly what prompted the physical fight between him and the bikers. Video posted by TMZ shows the actor pushing one of the mini-biker riders, who was right in front of what seems to be his SUV just before the fight broke out.
The 59-year-old actor is immediately ganged up on by several of the other bikers. Ziering attempted to breakaway and dashed across the busy street, dragging several of the attackers with him. Footage shows him fighting back as he gets punched by one of the bikers. Eventually, he broke free and ran away on the sidewalk.
Both Ziering and the bikers left the scene in and on their own vehicles. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said that the incident remains active and under investigation. It is unclear if an incident report was filed by either party. In his post, Ziering said that he was in the car with his child and that they both emerged from the incident unharmed.
He said, "I am relieved to report that my daughter and I are both completely unscathed, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the growing boldness of such groups who disrupt public safety and peace." He added, "This situation highlights a larger issue of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior."
Ziering wrote, "As a citizen and a parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this kind of behavior, causing fear and chaos, while the response from authorities seems insufficient. I have always been an advocate for standing up against intimidation and misconduct, and this incident reinforces my belief in the importance of personal and community safety."
He concluded his post by urging law enforcement to take action, saying, "We must address the underlying issues that lead to such disruptive behavior and ensure that our streets are safe for everyone. I urge city officials and law enforcement to take decisive action against such lawlessness and provide the necessary resources to prevent future occurrences."
He added, "I am thankful for the support of my family, friends, and fans during this time. It's in challenging moments like these that the strength and unity of our community are most vital. Happy New Year."
